I have a 04 XB12S with 4800 miles on it. I have dumped a ton of cash into it, race ecm, D&D, gutted airbox, American Sport Bike everything (spooge can, crg gold levers and bar end mirrors, Kellerman HID's and LED's, LED integrated brake & turnsignal taillight, axle sliders, cheesegrater eliminator, carbon fiber air scoops on both sides, cf oil cooler cover, cf rear fender, pilot powers (500 miles on them), streetfighter seat, gold heel guards (rated at +2rwhp each) and a few things I am sure I forgot. I also have all stock parts plus cover, tank bag, extra airbox cover (stock colors and pristine) and a extra rear rim with a little rub mark from a strap. I also have the factory parts and service manual. What is it worth? I am located in the North San Francisco Bay area. Throw out a number, Thanks, Ed |

Thin_air ... I would say kbb for bikes is pretty spot on if not a bit biased toward the owner ! I just sold a bike (wife's Blast) that the finance company and the dealer and everywhere else you could buy one valued at around 2000-2500, kbb said retail would be 3500, anyone on this board knows an 02 Blast isn't worth that in stock trim. Also .. kbb says a 97 shadow ace 1100 is still retail at 4600+ ... I know that is BS And the S1 I just bought, is supposed to retail at 4500+ and trade at 3800, funny thing is I paid less than both at an HD/Buell dealership (with TONS of aftermarket money thrown at it) .. My point is KBB seems to really favor the consumer, near 7 grand for an 04 regardless of how it's setup (unless serious money and work is in the motor) isn't bad. Unfortunately as many HD owners find out, all the extras you can throw on a bike won't necessarily yield as big a return as they might think. But then again, throw 7500 out there, and see if anyone bites , remember - it's only worth what someone is willing to spend. (Message edited by tattoodnscrewd on January 21, 2007) |

As far as the extras goes, I think selling them on Ebay might be more productive for you. Unless the buyer of your bike has a use for the extras, it won't really add much to the value. Aftermarket parts do very little in increasing the value of a bike. Return the bike to as close to stock as you can do easily, and then either Ebay the parts, or use them in the price negotiation. As far as a number goes, KBB even is a little higher then I have often seen. When was the last time that you bought something for at or over book value? |

I don't think I'd pay over $6500 for it. With the extras. |

Extras will not often add any value to a vehicle, in some cases it will subtract (ricers, just how do they sell those things). A vehicle is not an investment. You could put it back and sell it stock then you might be able to sell your bling, you would be doing good to get 1/2 what you paid for them new. |

I paid $5k for my "box stock" '04 in the fall of '05 with 4700 miles. Most bikes I was looking at, at that time, were selling in the $5,500 range- that was a year ago, in the fall, when prices are lower, in my opinion. It was also an eBay deal. I looked for 4-5 months for the right deal before buying. |

Anytime you add aftermarket parts to a bike your not increasing it's value. Even though to the person spending the money on buying these parts it may seem that way it really is in fact not adding to the value. A s stated earlier a bike is not an investment. If you were to total your bike today your insurance company would likely not pay you any extra for these parts. Ask me how I know My list of goodies was at least as long as yours, so you can imagine my disappointment when I found out what they were paying me. |

I agree with returning your bike to stock and ebaying all the extras. I did this with my Wide Glide and really made out much better. I got over a grand for all the bling and it really didn't didn't effect the sale price of the bike. Of course all that stuff was off BEFORE any potential buyers saw it. Also I think the NADA website gives more realistic prices than KBB. |
