Dont know how many here listen to talk radio but apparently some democrats and others think we need to reinstate this FCC regulation so that opposing views get equal time to be heard on all stations.

I guess freedom of speech is a great thing to some as long as they like what they hear.

Oh man... This is gonna get out of hand, I can already tell. Politics and the BadWeb always seem to be a volitile mix.

Good luck with that, dude.

Isn't it funny how that works? When the GOP took over during the contract for America they did all the things to the Democrats that they complained of the Democrats doing to them. Now that the Dems are taking over, they're doing to the Republicans what the Republicans did to them. As soon as enough talk radio shows start featuring more liberal speakers the liberals will drop the fairness doctrine.

It's all a matter of whose ox is up on the block.

PS: I like politics on the BadWeb. You guys are a lot of fun. Makes me want to go to a party with all y'all.

Hmmm.... can anyone say free market?
Not enough liberals on the airways? Maybe that's because there aren't enough listeners. There was Air America... oh wait... nobody wanted to listen so they pull the plug. Damn. I guess we'll have to legislate the 'free' market.

When the GOP took over during the contract for America they did all the things to the Democrats that they complained of the Democrats doing to them.
I don't recall the GOP instituting any such doctrine. If that was the case, wouldn't the Republicans have dictated 'fairness' on television while they were in power? Notice I used the word dictate, not requested. This legislation will not be a request - it will be dictating what views are acceptable as free speech.

My question: Who determines 'fair?'
Here's a novel idea, what if we allow the listeners to decide what programming they'll listen to. No listeners, no advertisers, no more program. Tada, problem solved.

Before somebody chimes in with "well what about Howard Stern?" I believe that fell in the category of obscenity which is NOT normally considered protected speech.

FCC??

A quarter score fiefdom for the dynasty of the moment.

Their mandates change more than Cher at an awards show. I wouldn't sweat this, even to the oldies.

Talk radio is the only place I heard this one. Two US Border Patrol agents are looking at 11 years in Federal prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in his fat ass. He had 2,000 lbs. of dope in his van. Our government treated him in a military hospital and granted him full immunity to testify against the agents. Time to call the White House Bitch Line 1-202-456-1111 and demand a pardon for these guys. The liberal media thinks sort of thing is great.

I don't think it matters whether the Crips or the Blood's are in office..it is the same gang presented to look like you have a choice. I still want Kinky Friedman to run for President!! He should've won in Texas..by the way that is kinda his quote there at the top I couldn't remember it accurately, but it is close enough.

I tend to agree. The last election gave us a choice between two rich kids from Yale who were members of the super-secret Skull and Bones Society, got questionable grades, had questionable military careers and questionable leadership skills.

Although I'm sorry I voted for one of them, I'm not sorry the other one lost.

Next time I'll vote for Kinky.

My radio comes with a knob that I can turn down the volume to an inaudible level...or even turn the radio off. I don't know if this advanced technology is available on all models. Not to brag, but my radio can also be tuned to receive stations that play music.

I heard about this one also. It's frightening that they want "fairness" in talk radio yet if you turn on the networks or cnn especially, all you hear is left wing propaganda, which is fine by the way if you like hearing that stuff. The free market will decide what people want to hear, not legislators.

I agree with Cheesebeast, if you don't want to hear it, turn it off or turn on some music, ad revenues will go down and they'll go out of business. Kinda like Air America did.

Does it really matter what your politics are?
Does it matter if you even listen to talk radio?
Does it matter who you voted for, didn't vote for, or wish you could've voted for?

NO

Why would we want ANY government agency telling us what is 'acceptable' free speech - on ANY media.

You have the right to free speech, not the right to be heard. If your message is good, the resources to be heard will follow.
And don’t forget the first 5 words of the Bill of Rights, “Congress shall make no law”
The proponents of the fairness doctrine are probably the same people that think the Second Amendment is about hunting.

Hey M3-120, you're right. Acceptable speech to government depends upon who's in power. That's why the First Amendment is in the Constitution and not legislation.

As for Kinky and Frank in 2008, I'm interested in hearing more about the animal-loving plank of the platform

I love animals too. I love them barbqued, grilled, fried, baked, and roasted. Hell I even like some of them raw.

Oh great, so the fairness doctrine is another Class Envy, Robin Hood inspired legislation.
Take from the rich and give to the poor, as long as they’re saying what the legislatures want us to hear.
