Anything I should be aware of before ordering parts outside the US?

Depending on what it is, sometimes customs will give you a hassle. I ordered body armor from Knox a few months back and almost didn't get them into the country.

There are evidently some restrictions on importing textile materials. Plus, at first they thought it was some sort of ballistic body armor and held the shipment until I was interviewed a couple of times. They wanted very detailed information about intended purpose and materials used.

After about a week of trying to get more information out of Planet-Knox and going back and forth with customs, I finally got the stuff shipped to me.

When possible, try to get items mailed to you, rather than a shipping service.

UPS and Fed Ex will all charge additional custom brokerage fees before they give you the package. This is not always the case when you use US Post.

You still may have to pay applicable duty, but the brokerage fees are extra.

(At least this is my experience when I order stuff from the US to Canada)

To be more specific; Anyone ever have unexpected surprises, like duties or fees, when dealing with Trojan-Horse?

If you ask them to send it by the Royal Mail service, you'll probably get no hassle.

It depends also on the declared value, if memory serves, under $300 they don't generally bother about reclaiming duties as it's not economic.

Not the case with Useless Parcel Services, who will jerk you around from arsehole to breakfasttime for next to nothing.

If you ask me nicely & pay the flight, I'll pick the stuff up & bring it over personally for you.

I have delt with Trojan a BUNCH of times. worst part is the waiting, BUT once Trojan gets the part from his supplier it is roughly 10 days from time he sends it till time I receive items.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Firebolteric_ma,

That's good to know. I didn't want to order the Twin Scoops for my Uly, then when they arrive find it's another $50 at my door.

Yesterday I received the Buell "own the corners" hat and sling bag that I bought off of ebay.

OK I live in the Great White North of Canada and expect to pay a premium.
$9.00 for the hat and $20 for the bag. Plus I paid $21.50 for shipping (all figures US).

The seller wouldn't do US Post and sent it UPS. Those theives hit me up for another $20 at my door or they wouldn't give me the package. It was their brokers fee.

If the seller had done US Post, it would have cost me a total of $8.00 for shipping. Through UPS I paid $41.50.

(and that was only the 2nd dumbest thing that I did that day.)
