I am looking at several very good job offers in Minneapolis. I am flying there in a couple of days for a face to face interview. I would be relocating from Dallas,TX. Does anyone have any good or bad things to say about the area other than it gets cold. Thanks Micah | ||

Micah, I loved living in White Bear Lake, north of St. Paul, because it still had a small town feel. You just have to get a snowmobile and if you live in the right place you can drive it on the street to get to the trails. The "ditch riding" on the sled was so much fun because it was jumping from mogul to mogul and is a great workout. The closer to WI you are, the closer you are to good motorcyle roads. The only thing I didn't like was the bugs in the summer. DBird | ||

RocketSprink, The ex-wife had a convention in Minneapolis one time and brought back some footage of the Mall of America. It was pretty dagone impressive. Iamike, I love to fish, I had a coworker that raved about the lake trout in the Thunderhead Bay. I am an avid hunter and I am looking for a place to do that as well. Dbrid, Just what I wanted to hear.... I have a yzf400 I am itchin to put some screws in the tires and start playing. I run a Uly these days so i am looking for some extended weekend runs through MN,WI and hopefully CAN. Bluzm2, I will drop ya note, I need the local info as I will be looking for a temp place to live for a couple of months while I figure out where I want to be, so all you can divulge would be most helpful. I am a Project/Implementation Manager in the IT/Healthcare industry and have been getting pinged by company's in MN for some time. I guess I am finally going to take the bait. Keep the info coming, This is some good stuff. I was hoping I would get the scoop from some fellow Buellers who have been or do live there. | ||

The cities are an excellent place to reside. I grew up on the south-east side(New Trier) While I still get lost in Mlps..... I can wind my way through StP with no problems | ||

Slowride- You'll fit right in then. My son-in-law is an avid golfer. They moved to Minneapolis/St.Paul last year. He said that he can't get anyone to golf with him since they are all fishing or hunting. My parent's have a cabin near Leech Lake that has a 70,000 acre state forest nearby that you can trail ride in. I can't ever get BluzM2 to go up there with me so maybe you'd like to some time.  | ||

Iamike, If all go's well with the interview next week and they pitch me an offer. I will definately set something up with ya. I have a truck and trailer if needed and I really need to give this YZF400 a workout, not to mention myself. For anyone in the area, next Friday I will be flying in and stayin the weekend to look around. PM me and let me know if you guys would like to grab a beer and show me around. I have lived in the Minneapolis area my whole life. I grew up in Richfield and now live in south Minneapolis. It's a great place to live. You get the excitement of the big city but it's not too big. Winters will be a lot different for you coming from Dallas. The winters aren't as bad as they used to be, but below zero temps are still common and you really can't ride year round. But those first warm days of spring when you get the bike out the for first time are awesome! Here in Minnesota you really get to experience all four seasons, which I think is part of the area's appeal. | ||

Micah, I grew up near Duluth. MN is a great place to live. People tend to think of the snow/cold in the winter a bad thing, but I think its the opposite. Winter brings an entirely new set of things to do and experience. Skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, just to name a few. I'm in IT as well, let me know if they need any more people up there! I'm dying to move back closer to home! | ||

its a great town. i lived in mpls summer of 2004, and there's quite a cool motorcycling community there. its just big enough to have everything you need as far as cuisine, culture, services, and shopping, small enough not to be too expensive and congested, central enough that you can get most places in the US easily, and an airline hub so you can fly lots of places direct. the lakes are amazing - there's "10,000" of them! I live just 10 minutes south of the Cities and I agree with what everyone else said. I'm not home very often because I go to school in Milwaukee. All in all it's a pretty cool place to live. P.S. We should try and get some group rides together in the summer. When I am home I see maybe a handful of Buells. -Matt | ||

I've lived in Minneapolis all of my life. Not too many deer within city limits, you need to watch out in the sticks though. If you stick around the city you will find there is tons of nightlife and artsy events going on all the time. It's known as a progressive area that is very tolerant and diverse. I highly reccomend the city especially for opportunities. Forget about the Mall of America,...it's just a big giant mall. Big Deal. I certainly hope not to many of us are concerned with Malls. The beauty of this city is the diversity and broad range of options to do what you want. We've got plenty forests for camping, lakes for fishing or boating, and community supported niches of everything imaginable. It's pretty easy to find your comfort zone here. | ||

Brad- Just kidding, I may borrow a DR400Z for you when I come up in May to open the cabin (if you are interested.) You and Slowride can put it on the calendar for the 1st or 2nd weekend in May. I think the first weekend is open season for bass. | ||

Bluzm2 / Iamike, The YZF400 is not streetable yet, will I have an issue in MN trying to plate it after I put a baja kit on it? If yes, I will just use it for dirt only as it is way to much fun and crazy fast. And I will keep that weekend open if all goes well and I get a good offer. Btw, what the heck is "Dinky Town" | ||

Micah, It kind of depends on the area. Our cabin is 18 miles from the forest and I rode it all the time on my XR400 without trouble. I decided to do the Baja conversion on it and had an IA DOT officer ok it. Just before I got it licensed the state did an about face and stopped licensing them. They even went and took back ones that they had already issued. Minnesota is much more atv oriented and may allow a conversion. I have since sold the XR and bought a DR650 that is street legal. Brad-if you do get one, plan on coming out to Colorado with me and Drew in June and we'll ride in the mountains too. (Buell included). p.s. How's your back doing? | ||

Dinky Town is an area of Minneapolis by the U of M campus. Lots of eclectic student stuff going on there. Couple of famous facts: Bob Dylan lived and performed there when he was very young and just out of Hibbing. Al's Breakfast is located there. Supposed to be the best breakfast you can get anywhere in the world. |
