I am pretty much half an idiot when it comes to anything mechanical, I just know how to ride and go fast. I'm gonna take off my exhaust and mail it in, I 'm ordering a K & N air filter also. Besides that what else do I need to do. I have an 06 xb12r. Do I need to remap the ecm or change the chip? Any help will be much appreciated, my friends who could help me are 3200 miles away and I'm living by myself here with no help. |

You should at least get a race ECM. The best thing though is to get a Direct Link map for the Drummer/K&N combo. Talk to Al at American Sport Bike. |

The motorcycle will run fine with just the new air filter and the Drummer. However, it will run better if you replace your ecm with the Buell Race ECM. The snag here is that in order to use the Race ECM, you must take the bike to a Harley dealer, (or one of the very few members who have the equipment), to have the Throttle Position Sensor, (TPS), reset, otherwise the bike will probably run worse, and maybe not at all. It probably will run best if it has a custom map made for the stock ecm by a dyno specialist. One of our sponsors, American Sport Bike knows all about this. If you post your location, you might find a brother who can reset your TPS for you. While installing the Drummer is basically pretty easy, and there are good instructions on the Drummer web site, normally it is a good idea to have a friend help while trying to reinstall the muffler, because the straps that go around the muffler are very stiff, and seem to require a "third" hand. PS. Once the drummer is installed, you probably will want to remove the device that operates the valve in the stock muffler, which sits on top of the air filter, and is not needed with the Drummer. |

Yeah, get a Race ECM, at the very least (I would call Al, though) and upgrade your filter to either the K&N or the Buell Race Kit Filter. IF you upgrade the ECM, you're gonna wanna upgrade the filter and take out the snorkel. Let your ride breathe Mark |

Kyle, You're local here, so if you go race ECM, we have them in stock and I can zero your TPS out, I don't charge for that. So you could just drive your bike up, install it here, I'll zero the TPS, and you're good to go. A custom map is best, though. Terry has the XB12 drummer mapped, he was doing the beta testing but I don't know where he is at with that. Since you're local, I can get you set up if you're willing to spend a couple hours doing to local drive loops for me to check the AFV even if the beta test isn't complete. Gimme a call. Al |

So is the Motor blowing with the Race exhaust, K&N filter and stock ecm a myth then?????? I remember seeing some pretty ugly pictures of a tore up motor attributed to that combo. Just a question. |

I believe that picture of the blown motor was from a guy running and aftermarket pipe, K&N, with a stock ECM. I could be wrong on that though. In addition to the Race ECM and K&N, I recommend upgrading to a '07 Airbox. IT has more holes in it and it definitely makes a difference. It's a better option that the Open Airbox kits, imo, because it is quieter. |

So I should have no problem putting on the drummer and air filter without a race ecm at first. I don't want to blow anything. If that it is so, I will def come up and see you Al. Thanks |

Kevin is recommending the stock ECM these days - he runs a stock ECM on his race bike with no ill effects. I have a standard Druummer & K&N on an '07, and I could tell no performance difference between stock & Race ECm other than the Race ECM pinged on partial throttle roll-ons from 3000 RPM. Needless to say I put the stock one back in (I have the VDSTS software to reset the TPS). Bike runs great - no pinging, exhaust color is perfect charcoal gray. There are several other Drummer users here that run the stock ECM with no ill effects. call Kevin and ask him. I went around on this a few times until I decided to trust Kevin's experience :-) |

I ran a Drummer for several months before I got a Race ECM and the bike seemed to be fine except that it ran hotter than before. Once I switched to the Race ECM the bike ran a little cooler although the performance and mileage was about the same...just a peace of mind thing for me. The mileage improved on both chips compared to the completely stock setup. |

I ran the stock ECM in my '06 XB12Ss all summer at Kevin's request with no ill effects. I put the Race ECM back in as a control and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. A dyno might not agree with with my real world experience, but then I don't ride on a dyno. I've got the Drummer CF, K&N and I opened the airbox a bit more than stock. |
