Just curious...How many here are even interested in Drag Racing? How many Drag Racers are there on this board? Would there be any interest in a BadWeb racing team....a group of like-minded individuals helping each other out? | ||

I love drag racing. Im no pro, just a weekend hobbist. Bikes: I run my bolt at the local test and tune nights, and I help my buddy wrench/tune/pit crew his night-rod(with buell parts). Cars: I help pit crew/wrench with my brothers mustangs. Heres a pic of my bro's drag car @ rockingham  | ||

I've been involved with em sporadically since I was a kid, my dad used to run at the local track with his stang I then helped some friends with their cars, but i've never done it other than stop light stuff. I have a couple of buddies that have thier own dyno room and full on track cars. Always wanted to do it but time ain't on my side... Always watch em on ESPN II with the stereo hooked into the TV does that count  | ||

I suggested something similar for the knee dragger types, we could even get a two headed, maybe a three headed with hot shoes, team or friendly organization going.. | ||

My thought process was...There is a little racing club around here called Drag Masters. The idea behind the club is to get like minded folks together doing something they enjoy and bring new people into the sport. Everyone helping everyone else. Introducing men and women to drag racing who have maybe always wanted to try it but were always too intimidated to give it a go. There would be old hands there to help newbies and so on and so forth... I think it is a great outlet for performance oriented people. And to have an organization(loose term) attached to an already established forum...well, would be a great start. | ||

I went to the Gator Nationals a couple years ago (got in for free). I don't have much interest in it but you've got to see it at least once. I even got to ask Angelle Savoie(?-I don't know who she's married to these days) a question. I've always wanted to give it a try...but nothing more. | ||

I think its a cool idea, and I just discovered that there is a track a half an hour away. I know some on here really get into posting thier times and the like, and like I stated before it would be cool to get a badweb team together. Real grass roots style, which is what I was suggesting with the circuit trackers. Drag racing seems to me to be the most accessible of the motorsports mostly due to the lower cost. Lots of test and tune nights that run around 10 bucks, I wish you could do track days for 10 times that price...Plus the sound of top fuel makes my cheeks hurt-grinning from ear to ear. | ||

I run street nights and "streetfigher" races at New England Dragway on a semi-regular basis and have offered before and am offering again now to meet anybody interested in running at NED and introduce them to the guys and gal at the track as well as let them know what they need to know to get running. How's that for a run on sentence?  | ||

That's the kind of thing I am talking about Scott. And Corey sometimes, you can get together with a large enough group and get an adjusted price. All it takes is a bit of planning and of course, the obligatory(sp?) schmoozing...  If you like the sound that a top fueler makes, you should hang around here awhile. It's loud! | ||

My son likes the noise too apparently, as everytime I'd fire my bike up this past summer he would come running into the garage jumping up and down-really enjoys burnouts too. So I may take him and his sis to the track this year, the most recent is still a bit too young... NHRA has two different stops here in Ohio each year, but I haven't been to one in a while. Rick is right, you must see at least once, you might get addicted. IMO that is one of the sweetest sounds ever; heavily lobed cams, timing off, barely idling, then full on assualt of the senses. You hear it, feel it, see it, but there's something about being a first hand witness to one of man's greatest exhibitions of excess that is pretty damn cool. Caviar? Ha, I spend almost a $50,000 a weekend in fuel just to travel 400 yds in less than 5 seconds! I've heard rumors about an X-1 that's a bit on the noisy side down there | ||

If you like the sound that a top fueler makes, you should hang around here awhile. It's loud! NOTHING beats TOP FUEL...I go every year to the Keystone Nationals in PA. There is nothing like it in the world. Can't explain how LOUD it is as nothing I have seen/heard even comes close. They are just crazy loud. Them Motors are Just a controled Explosion! I am getting all warm and fuzzy just writting this..heheheh Scott >>>>> I will be taking you up This year for sure, Been thinking this for a while now. It is a fun time Playing at the 1320. My kids are dying to go too! My oldest (10) will be introdused to "TOP FUELL" this year....He can't wait as I tell him T.V. Does the sport no justice as to how crazy it is. I almost can't believe how close one can get to them cars while in the pits, They are that crazy!(bring a gas mask if you want to get near them while running) I have seen grown men run little kids down running from them fumes. heheheheh I am getting giddy again  | ||

Hey Eric, See you at the track in April then! Sometime this spring I will be doing a few laps on my brothers low 9 second '82 GS 1100!   I agree with all of the above with regards to Top Fuel cars!! Don't miss the Jet Cars, Funny Cars, Pro Stock and PRo Mod (IHRA) either! While we are at it, go see: World of Outlaw Sprint Cars New England Super Modifieds USAC style Midgets Gold Cup Hydroplanes These are all classes that really have to be seen to believe. I'm sure MotoGP is in there to, but I haven't seen them in person. | ||

The Great Lakes Dragway (or whatever it's called) has a local series during the summer that I've never made it down to. Wish a track was a bit closer, but I guess an hour or two away isn't so bad, just tough to do on weeknights, and cost prohibitive on weekends. Fun though, I used to run a car occasionally out at Seattle International Raceway when I was younger. Lived across the street from one of the folks who helped start up that track way back when. Wish I still had the button/pin that read "SIR is Gnu", I used to hassle him by saying "so SIR is an animal then?????". (I thought it was funny, and yeah I was a bit ornery as a kid) | ||

Thanks Mike! Very cool idea Pammy. I've only run the strip on one occasion. I got five runs in, not one of them anything close to a clean run. Very frustrating! I have a LOT more respect for drag racing now. It is definitely not as easy as it looks. A friend of mine got his pro-license and ran in the nines on his stock ZX12R a few years back. This is not for the light-hearted. On one run he carried the front wheel for at least 800'; when it touched down at around 120 mph, it put the bike into a vicious tank slapper; it was about dusk and we could see his tail light suddenly turn into a blur. Thankfully he was able to recover and save it, but he was a shade paler for some time.  An evening at the strip during a test and tune run what you brung is a very thrifty way to go racing. At the strip in Hallsville, Texas it's only $15 for an evening of drag racing. | ||

Mike, Thanks. Ever helpful, as always. Bomber, I know you are right, man, as usual. Again, thanks to Mike. As far as noise we have a Pro-Dragster here. That would be nitro-methane burnin' beasts. We have a Top Fueler here as well. It's not only noise to the eardrum. It's the ground shaking and the concussion you feel in your lungs and stomach that almost makes it difficult to breathe while on the throttle. The smell gets in your clothes and in your hair. Man, I LOVE it! Heck, my Buell will give you that sensation somewhat. I think there are a couple of folks here that have heard the yellow beast in the flesh... Hey, Rich. I was talking to a friend of yours(and mine) about you the other day, about traveling. Next time you are over this way you should stop in. | ||

I have a video around here somewhere...we were running a fuel bike and it went into a tank slapper at about 170mph...It was very violent and all the EMT's(you could see on the video) were running for the trucks, just sure that the worst would happen. But luckily it didn't. When we assessed the bike after the run, the Exhaust was completely flat and the wheelie bar(hyme joint) had ripped a chunk out of the chromoly swing arm(that's some tough stuff). Woody(the rider) looked as if someone had drained him of all of his blood and he was unable to form a intellegible sentence for a while. All in all, I would have to say that it was a colon-cleansing experience for my man Woody. But he went on to ride again and still enjoys the adventure. A (true)grass roots effort would be a great experience for all involved. I would be glad to be a part of it(personally). | ||

Well if anyone can make it over this way and needs help, either in the pits, with a truck, or wants someone to take a few passes let me know... Pam you guys got some fuelies huh, I'd love to be around that place on a sat afternoon...The percussion from those beasts is amazing. My friends and family used to say that my M2 with the force sounded like a pro stocker(car) I can imagine what your's sounds like from looking at the pics  | ||

We have a little of everything over here. Drag racing a stock Buell takes more finesse than a highly modified bike. Good for you. What do you think you need to make a fun time out of a night out at the track? Do you want to include your families? Could you get enough folks to join you to make a good crowd? Could you get your local shop involved? WOuld you want your local shop involved? Would you want to meet once a month, once every couple of months? A few details would have to be worked out, but a fun time could be had by all. more later | ||

Our shop used to sponsor weekly events at a local dragstrip in Jacksonville, FL. Attendance was never huge but it was a lot fun. It was a run whatcha brung grudge match sorta thing. It seemed like it was always the same small group of people showing up. Eventually that strip closed down. I never ran. The dealership wanted me to run my own bike there to help promote the thing. All I asked for was that they cover the entrance fee and a free $100 tethered kill switch...they wouldn't do either. Cheapskates. | ||

The good thing(s) about coming together as an (un)organized group is the commradarie, group purchases(discounts!), shared knowledge and learning and being more involved in a sport we love. Bringing others into the fold as well. Somunds like fun to me. | ||

As a suggestion, Homecoming is typically held the first weekend of June, Great Lakes Dragway has all H-D night(Buells)on Thursday night. Maybe check their schedule to see if that Thursday is before Homecoming. What a great kick off to Homecoming 2007!! Get all those on the way in to stop, watch/ do some dragging-FUN!! | ||
