Just got the Feb 07 issue, quite a bit of positive feedback for the XR1200 Sportster. Several non-Harley types expressed an interest in it. Wonder how it would affect Buell sales? On another note, the Feb issue of Motorcyclist gave a good write-up on the Ulysses. |

I don't think it would effect Buell sales much at all as I think the designs are miles apart. I have to admit though, I would LOVE to have a dirt-track style tube-frame harley powered "SPORTSTER" emphasizing SPORT. |

To be honest, I'd buy one of those before a Blast. The HP isn't as great as you'd expect from a 1200. If memory serves, around 80 something? I think it's competition for bikes like the Blast and the S series, the price is about 10k too. |

I would be surprised if anyone seriously considering an XB series Buell would think twice about the new Sporty -- it's a nice scoot, for certain, but I can't see it approximating and XB12anything in any performance measure the bike would make sense if HDI were trying to lure traditional HD riders to Buell ;-} as for competing with the Blast, well, at over twice the price, it's a tough sell, I believe goodness knows the new Sporty is a bike that many people have already built for themselves, and many, many more have asked for -- asking and paying are, of course, two different things, yes? |

Bomber, yep, I will be completely happy modifying my 93 Sporty into something of my own along those lines, but I don't know that I'd buy one over a Buell. Infact I probably wouldn't. Ofcourse, that may be because I have a sporty already and have no intentions of selling it. |

I, for one, could be quite happy on a Ulysses or an XR1200 Sportster. Have always liked Sportsters, my first one was a hot-rodded 1971 XLCH back in 1976. Learned to appreciate electric start. Didn't like the poor brakes, vibration or marginal handling. I built a couple Evo Sportsters and had a great time with them. Then I test rode a Buell. Bought my Cyclone a week later. 35,000 miles later and it still puts a smile on my mug. |

Bomber your quite right. Many times when I was riding my XR1000; people would state that they wanted one and that they were mad that HD stopped building them. After a few years of this my response was that if these people put their money were their mouth was HD would still be manufacturing XRs. I hope HD produces the XR1200. If it's using a XB12 motor in Sportster cases; maybe this will open up Buell for a modern engine. The cost for the traditional air cooled engine would be absorbed by the XBs and the XR1200. Then maybe they would offer a line of bikes with a more modern engine. This works for Ducati enthusiasts. It's all about choices. |
