A group of us are wanting to pool some cash together to purchase a video/helmet cam for group rides, track days, etc. resulting with an end of the year video of rides and events so a high quality picture is pretty important. Any input on machines you are or have used will be greatly appreciated as well as ball park pricing and where to buy. Thanks, in advance!! |

www.helmetcamera.com I was just at the site looking at them. There are three different kits, with different resolutions. 380 lines 480 lines 560 lines If anyone has any experience let us know. We're looking for a good quality unit that will stand up to alot of abuse and last for a long time. Thanks |

I appreciate the time invested in posting the pictures and it might be worth considering, but it dosn't look like it would handle a crash very well. I'm not saying that we're going to crash, but it will be strapped to a track bike being thrashed. |

I have not been following it for a while, but are the CVS disposable cameras still easily hackable? I have one of the old (already hacked) ones on a shelf waiting to be built into my bike or jacket. Mediocre quality, exceptionally disposable. |

Livnlo, Thanks for that info! We have a Best Buy locally but honestly I would have never thought to look there for such a specific application. |

Ralph, one of our guys on a rally I went to had a Camera mounted wherever he wanted it secured with velcro. The only problem I could see was the picture looked sort of fisheyed lookin'. There may be a way to fix that however. I'll try to find out for ya. |

Thanks Joe, My calendar is getting really packed with my new racing venture, local group rides, track days and two weeks of schooling this summer but I'm planning on a return to Arkansas for a few days of riding the twisties! As you going to be available as a tour guide again? At least to direct us back to that great rib joint!!!! By the way, thanks for any help on the camera, too... |

This is the way to go. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-480-line-Color-CCD-Bullet -Cam-Helmet-Camera-Kit-NT_W0QQitemZ230070894599QQi hZ013QQcategoryZ43438QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The guys store is right down the street from me and a super nice guy. If you don't like it he will refund you. It's cheap and high quality. Not something you normally find in the same sentence. I simply just velcroed it to my lid in the proper angle. Here are some vids I made with it: http://www.incorrect.org/videos/Black_sunshine%20a nd%20Odie.wmv http://www.incorrect.org/videos/Highway%2060.wmv http://www.incorrect.org/videos/Wolf%20Pen%20Gap.w mv |

Black_sunshine, None of those links say anything about the lenses used on those. Like the focal length and f stop. Are there any options on that camera for changing the lens? Jack |

Jack.....Its a 480 line is all I know. I think the cap on the end screws off but I can't be for sure. I can look at mine tonight. I don't think you can change it. |

Don't worry too much about it. I sort of wondered what the focal length would be on the lenses on the cameras above. I don't know much about this kind of camera but I'm getting interested. I googled it some and finally figured it out a little better. http://www.cctvspecialty.com/cclech.html That site has a nice explanation of the lines thing (resolution) and also the focal length on the lenses. It looks like cameras like that will generally have lenses that are like 3.6mm or so. The focal length will fall in the range of about 2mm (very wide field of view or wide angle) to 18mm (very narrow field of view or telephoto). So if you were using a camera like that and it had a standard lens mount you could play with the field of view by using a different lenses or a zoom lens. One nice thing is that the lenses can be pretty cheap: http://www.cctvspecialty.com/secale.html If your lens unscrews and has 1" O.D. thread and 32 TPI, it is called a C or CS mount, you just need to figure out which of the two any given camera uses. Cochise, "As you going to be available as a tour guide again?" WOW, my grammer really is better than that!!! It must be the fumes from the Varathane I've been mopping on the oak floor in my just completed living room remodel. Thanks for everyone's input on the camera, too! |

Jack....will not come apart so I'm assuming that you cannot change lenses on my model. |
