It was indeed a GREAT time! Erik was broadcasting his enthusiasm for motorcycling and it really was contagious. My wife met Erik and was favorably impressed. Erik's ability to explain engineering concepts in layman's terms is second to none and helped many to realize why the bikes handle as well as they do. Among the notables who were there were several members of the early ATC that I haven't seen in years. Jay Hawley even came out of seclusion to attend. The food at the reception was excellent, as well. Now, it's time to leave for the New York IMS! |

Don't let me spoil the party, but isn't this the very essence of my posts that got me hauled over the coals by so many because I disbelieve, let's see how was it put, 'other manufacturers have spent years trying to work out' or some such words about the XB's handling attributes? Funny how only a handful of weeks ago I was lead to believe these very things were down to some top secret design principle. Tell me, was Honda's head of design at this speech? Next time I call bull shit, at least you'll recognise I am not the one speaking with forked tongue. But, glad you enjoyed the speech all the same. Rocket |

What a great evening! I could have sat for another hour listening to Eric. His enthusiasm is truly infectious. I liked the way he described the XB engine in terms of being high tech, and I agree, even though the market may not. And before someone else mentions pushrods and performance explain why a Corvette is favorably compared with a Ferrari. I especially enjoyed the chance opportunity of breaking bread with Court, I've been reading Court's musings and valuable information since the Thunder Press days and it was a pleasure to listen to his stories, thanks Court. Thanks for pointing out my selling error, don't you just hate that the "e" is next to the "r"! It's "I liked the way he described the XB engine BEING high tech!" DC. |

>>>Tell me, was Honda's head of design at this speech? No. When I spoke to him, around 3:00PM, yesterday afternoon he was in Phoenix, driving back to Torrence last night. But he is a huge admirer of Erik Buell's innovation. Nice guy he is . .

Check out the sinister eyes and smirk of the Honda chief of design. More proof that Honda is indeed in league with the devil. "Ride red." Indeed. |

Erik will happily and openly explain that the XBikes handle so well because of their furtherance of the trilogy of tech along with a 52" wheelbase and extremely aggressive chassis/front-end geometry. The point made before was that no other manufacturer has figured out how to make such radically aggressive chassis geometry work so well on a street going sport bike, especially one lacking a steering damper. I was wondering if Seiji Yamaguchi was present to Erik Buell's secret XB revelations? Not Martin Manchester. Rocket |

They just have no need for it so you won't see them producing it. Meanwhile, you bought the lie. Rocket |

I got the first 45 minutes of the presentation on video. I am still trying to compress it enough to redistribute it. but here are the still pics I managed to get:
Erik: "How tall are you anyways?" Me: "About up to here."
I was thinking about the video. Perhaps the thing to do is to rip out the audio and post that only? Perhaps we could set up a torrent for downloading the video? |

Sean, How unfortunate. You are WAY out of line and in violation of board policy. Take a time out. |

I bought a ticket and planned on attending... That was before I caught the f$)% flu!!!! Once in a lifetime event and I get f^%#*! sick. I couldn't be more disappointed... but I'm glad everyone had a good time. I wonder how long I will have to wait for another chance to meet Erik... Maybe get a chance to meet some of you later during the riding season? I promise I won't spread the flu to you. |

I liked the question about the Buell dirt bike... which was left open by Erik. My wife was in a fog when he started speaking Engineer, but she loved the first part of his speech. Erik is entertaining. I admire his thinking, which he vocalized about his design vs others. There are many paths a person can take to get from point A to point B.... Erik has decided to not follow the others and make his own path and people see that in his bikes. |

that's the part that I found the most interesting............. He never said anything else about that dirtbike thing. Almost like he was baiting us into thinking there was something in the works. |

Care to email it in a web friendly format to me (quicktime, wmv, divx)? I can host it. Josh jcox@cycleconnectionh-d.com |

The smallest I was able to compress it is 200M so far. (in MP4 format) It takes a long time for my old computer to crunch the files so each cycle of trial and error takes half an hour. Any suggestions for parameters or formats? I don't think google video likes MP4 but the smallest AVI format I managed to get done was still 400M. |
