Right now My bike is in a near total state of disassembley, brake problems, bad wheel bearings, possible front end issues and a host of other cosmetic and mechanical issues, Further more in essence I have about 1.5 days per week to do serious major wrenching on it Today I bust open the front caliper for "overhaul" the the repair kit "SHOULD" contain: 6 pistons 12 piston orings and 2 body orings, it came sealed in a plastic tube I assume sealed by Nissin? and then in a buell tagged ziploc bag! IT contains 6 pistons, 12 orings, some silicone grease (BTW whats that for the FSM does not call for it? ) NO #@$%@#$%@# BODY SEALS My Trip to Daytona is just over 60 days away, I have many details to see to and then this.. Here is a gesture of my heart felt apprecicion to the individual who is supposed to check things like this BEFORE THEY SHIP Thanks for showing your customers how much you care
$HIT! I had to dig the old ones outa the trash and reuse them NOT ONE WORKD ABOUT THE DEALER SHOULDA CAUGHT IT - NOT ONE ........... FWIW, despite this I changed the front Iso, the TPS, Pulled the tail section off for some preventative maint, removed the PC3, re gasketed the banjo bolts, got a hair cut, played with the dog, and ate dinner ordered a Race ECM. wheels, force winder, nearly ready for powder coating, tail section to be ready by Friday. Oldog, Man, I hate it when stuff like that happens. Auto wheel brake cylinder rebuild kits (when people used to buy such things) used to come with silicone grease to use on the rubber "cups" that sealed the pistons. I'd guess the grease they included with your kit is for a similar purpose. |

You know, I hate it when things don't go my way but chill out. Someone makes one mistake and you're out for blood. Shit happens, calm down, you'll live longer. |

Dark that is mild, sticking my head in the Cat-$hit depository with it containing rotting food and the kitty-ditty boquet is not fun ... Also as a last ditch to avoid the "dive" a call was placed to the local dealer "er we can order it for you" if I had been sorely - pissed It would gotten a letter to BMC reguarding this and some other issues.... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=795056#POST795056 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=4062&post=797799#POST797799 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=795323#POST795323 Yes some things get under my skin Hugh: I guess its compatible with dot4 I have to think that a slip in the kit indicating its use would have been helpful, I have had 3 pull over events in the past 2 years from front brake problems, from my POV the grease would trap and hold more of the dust that bakes on the exposed pistons causing them to jam, IMO the FSM recomendation of lube with brake fluid makes good sense (Message edited by oldog on December 31, 2006) |

Wolf; I used to have a siameese that would come in the house at supper time and do the deed while we were eating, one of his better qualities, I might add I asked my wife at the time what she was feeding the little bastige "dead fish and plutonium ?" BTW the dealer is NOT responcible for this screw up or its catching .... (Message edited by oldog on December 31, 2006) |

Oldog, I didn't even bust the factory packaging because like you I assumed everything was in order. If you want Tues. I will check to see if I have any in stock. H-D is closed till the 2nd. If I don't have them I can see about ship time. I know overnight is expensive but something so small and light shouldn't be that bad. If there is anything else I can do for you just let me know! Its re assembled and torqued, If its not a huge cost and if it can be done round them up please. I've got a week or two new would be better. If you can't get just those parts its cool just leave a message here on badwebb either way. Me I hope that someone at Buell is at least random checking stock items that come it to see that they are as marked. ME, Nissin, and Buell, are responcible for me having to make the dive to $hitty kitty land. NEXT time I will UN PACK the kit BEFORE I throw the used parts out Phill we have had some fun on this project havent we , renumbered parts and factory sealed kits that are short parts. OH BTW from MY POV its NOT your BAD to BEGIN WITH and as allways thanks |

I knew you didn't mean nothing offensive to me by it. I understand your frustration completely. I will leave you a message here after I look into it. And yes it has been quite the task thus far. We will get you up and running again. Smokescreen |

I was sold a rear brake pad set containing two inner pads. Swapped it out with DaveS at homecoming - so no REAL problem (I keep two sets in stock `cause I have two sets of wheels). But if this is isolated to brake parts, maybe some investigation is in order. Sorry to hear about your "diving" Oldog, more sorry you reassembled with old (kitty $hitty) parts. Oz I meant the supply chain UPSTEAM from BMC... (Message edited by Oz666 on January 01, 2007) |

I can't believe you would blame Buell for this up? Seriously, they probably just buy the boxed parts from Thailand or Timbuktu, where they are assembled and boxed by blind children. |

I can't believe you would blame Buell for this •••• up? Who's name is on the bag? I was Major pissed about having to dive the trash can, I was about to spend Another $35.00 for 2 rubber rings had the local guy had the kit to avoid it BTW read up on the health hazards of CAT-SHIT, wonderful stuff. I would presume that the parts came from Nissin or a Nissin subcontractor, who checks them. Are the items not examined prior to re-labeling and ship out? Did I over react, a little I regularly receive items for work and yes I take a little extra time on some items and check them to see that they conform to the order specs... There is absolutely nothing worse than a customer who has waited for an order of needed parts and then is totaly pissed off because the wrong items were sent Been there and done that, I made a handsome living in '05 after my former employer relocated me out of my job because their staff could not meet the customers needs and I could Today I am still getting and handling parts and assistance calls from their customers as I have for almost 20 years. |

I was contacted by Buell via e-mail this AM,about the missing parts. Heres the text of my responce, please note that I have intentionaly removed the name of the Buell employee. A public THANK YOU, is in order. ================================================== ==================================== First: Thank you for contacting me. I had hopes that the thread on bwb might get this sort of response. I received the repair kit from stone mountain HD buell, sealed in a plastic sleeve as I stated on the board 6 pistons, 12 o-rings – no body joint rings. The kit was in a Buell tagged zip loc bag, leading me believe that it passed through the hands of at least one person at BMC. I missed the shortage on visual inspection, two others did as well, If you can please send me 2 new body o-rings for an X1 caliper ( nissin ) I will post an up date on the bwb threat that I was contacted by BMC regarding the matter, XXXXXXXXXXX: Have you ever gone into a restaurant for a meal and gotten great service but bad food? You just hate the idea that you gotta upset the wait staff with the complaint If you fail to alert the manager to your dismay you do both yourself and the establishment a disservice The management can’t correct the problem if they don’t know that it exists. Granted my tossing my plate into the floor and screaming obscenities….. Well was not the best way to go about summoning the manager. Thanks you for your assistance, Jim Bryant - 2001 X1 Aka “OlDog” ================================================== ==================================== If there was ever any doubt that someone at Buell is reading the BWB let it be gone. Thanks .... |

I have had further contact, from the mother ship, technical data explaining the grease usage for the sportster brakes heres how I distill it The silicon grease is to be placed on the pistons and rubber parts, the pistons are to be greased on the radius at the back between the sides and the closed end. the instructions state that if the brake fluid is used for lube more lever travel results. the sporties in question are using DOT 5 the X1 is Dot4 They have offered to allow me to return the kit to the local dealer for exchange. I just wanted the 2 orings Thanks |

There was a whole bunch of those caliper rebuild kits that did not include those body seals. I've had a bunch of them, and I think it was all of them that had the previous version of the part number. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an oversight by the person that packed the kit, but it probably was an oversight by the person that came up with the parts list for the kit. I sat on a number of those O-ring-less seal kits. I couldn't buy just the darned O-rings to make them whole. I sold them at a discount to folks and let them know they'd have to re-use their old ones. If anyone got one from me that didn't have them, my apologies, I thought I'd caught them all. Al |

I just got to work and looked at the parts books. It didn't change with the part number, it probably changed before then. The 99 X1 parts book shows those O-rings in the exploded diagram, but they aren't connected to any part number at all, they are just floating in the picture. But the 2000 parts book has a bullet that connects to the O-ring that attaches them to the rebuild kit part number. The part number had not yet changed to the new style number, that came later. So it likely has more to do with the "build" date of the kit than the part number. But if your kit had the new style part number, it had to be a mis-pack. Al |

Al it was a "mis pack", based on your input as well. BMC or HD will "exchange" the kit with me, at a dealer near me ( SMHD ) please... (Message edited by oldog on January 05, 2007) |
