OK after 70,000 some odd miles and several years, I have to finally ask the question: Does it mess up the bike if I just turn the key and push the button without waiting for the engine light to shut off? I know, I have always waited that 3 second pause and then poke the starter. I have mostly been affraid to try it. |

No, it won't damage anything. But you're not giving the computer the chance to tell you if something is amiss. Merely skipping a step, but I doubt it can hurt anything. On an XB, it's about the same amount of time for the fuel pump to pressurize the line, so I just wait for the fuel pump noise to stop then I hit it. Not sure if it's the same on the X1. BTW, nice pic in your profile there, definitely more than one way to skin a cat. |

You won'd damage the bike bust she may run like poo. If that problem arises just re-set the AFV by runnin 60mph in 4th gear for 2 to 3 min... |

Nate, the bike will run just fine...more often than not, I let the 4 seconds pass(time from service manual)....as long as the light goes out, you are good... and the time is a little longer than letting the fuel line pressureize... But, even when i dont let it go out...ti runs just fine... Chase |

Turn the key, put on the helmet, pull on the gloves, and press the starter button. Seems to be the right amount of time every time. ATGATT, right? |

for the first 100 or so start-ups AFTER installing my HID low beam, I would first press and HOLD down the start button, and then rotate the ignition key-switch to the ON position, thereby acheiving an instantaneous startup, with no delay whatsoever. the reason for this was to avoid the start and re-strike of the HID arc, thought it might prolong ballast life. Never had a problem result, just kind of lost the habit, quit worrying about the headlight, it just keeps working fine. Bike only has 21,000 miles, so really cant say if there are long term consequences....... |
