Ok, I'll be the first to admit that the Army is not infallible. As a 14 year vet I've seen the Army make some pretty ridiculous decisions in the 'fashion' department. Granted the Army is not in the fashion business and currently has more important things to worry about. But that doesn't change the fact that this is perhaps the silliest thing I have ever seen. AN ARMY OF ONE (sleeve that is.)
http://www.newenough.com/powertrip_us_army_camo_alpha_jacket_page.htm http://www.newenough.com/product_group_mens_powertrip_army.htm} What could otherwise be a great marketing/recruiting idea has been screwed up by poor execution. There are things about the jacket that I like but WTF, did they run out of camoflage material. "Due to the ongoing Global War on Terror there is a nationwide shortage of digital camoflage material therefore we will only camoflage ONE sleeve." So now instead of just putting up with people telling me I have a headlight out I'll have to endure them asking me if my other sleeve fell off. It would be easy to just blame PowerTrip for this decision but I know the Army well enough to know they probably screwed it up themselves. Probably the same guy that decided EVERYONE in the Army should get a nifty black beret. Don't even get me going on that one... So tell me what you think. Am I the only one that thinks this looks stupid? |

You are not the only one that thinks that looks stupid. Just think, if you joined the Navy you could have a dog bowl on your head and bell bottoms on all the time. |

I like the United States Army Powertripp stuff -- IMHO it's some good stuff (hope my wife's getting me one for Christmas.) I, too, would like to talk to the flaming-freaking-idiot POS that made the headgear decision. |

I agree, that is just plain ridiculous. You obviously saw the gloves, too, didn't you? Look, I would be first in line to get some gear that said Marines on it, but, not if it looked like that. Let's face it, the army's uniform is just a take on the Marine one. So, the Marine one would look similar. Yuk. I don't know about the Army, but, I can tell you about the marines. If I showed up like that at my battallion, not only would someone try to call me out for thinking that I have a sleeve hanging out of my jacket, but the gate guards alone would be enough of an irritant for me to take that jacket and burn it. You oughta see the crap that gets flipped for wearing your desert digitals and your gortex green digital coat when the weather sucks on your motorcycle. And the green is issued. Retarded. I know, I know, it shouldn't matter. But, this is some crusty MgySgt we're talkin about here, who's STILL buttsore about the transition to desert warfare who wishes he was back in the bush. I digress. If that thing were all black with the yellow piping or all digital, I would be a jealous man. Could you imagine a black with red piping or all digital with EGA's. Shoot, I'd be first in line. Mark, out. |

Reminds me of the large-animal veterinarian working on my family's farm in Slinger, WI. When it's time to check the pregnant cow, it's time to pull the "condom" over the hand and arm that is going to be inserted into the cow to check on the calf in the uterus. Know where that arm goes? Thaaaaats RIiiiightt! And after it is pulled out, it kinda looks like that pic. God bless our Military, and may he punish the Military's fashion director! I would need two of those jackets... Someone needed to remind the chucklehead that the Beret is a symbol of an often defeated nation. What's next, croissants in MRE'S ? W T F, Over ? |

You're totally missing the beret issue. I like this stuff too -- forget waiting on Christmas I'm ordering some now. All it needs is some wings and a tab and you'd have a proper leather riding jacket (assuming you're not tab-less.) |

I wonder how safe this gear actually is. Don't care for the lone sleeve thing. While the berets are cool, there's nothing better than a well sculpted and shaped BDU cap. AND they even come with ear warmers - silly looking yes, but quite effective. I'm just jealous I never got to wear a beret. Still have my airborne beret, never saw official duty (med drop). |

Negative. General Eric Shinseki should have his tab revoked for such blasphemy too. It's a much deeper issue than a simple head covering of a particular color -- I'm out. G2 |

Or even if both were camo it might look alright. Maybe I'm missing something. I know that I'm no longer in the Army's target audience (35yo.) Do you think this appeals to a certain age bracket (17-23yo.) Maybe the same focus group that came up with this idea coined the phrase "Army Strong." - which is a discussion we've already had on badweb. My fellow soldier friends love my buell but I don't think I could stand their snickering if I showed up wearing this. |

Wolf... You got it. It doesn't even need to say ANYTHING! No Marines, or the few the proud..... Hey, I see a great crossover with Buell and Marines. The Few, The Proud? Well, anyway, just my thought. Semper Fi. Mark |

I knew I was gonna regret that...ne way the jackets ugly. At least you guys have enough funding for something like that. Weve got enough recruiting cash for a few T-shirts. Woulda had some bad ass sling bags but that idea fell through |

buy it and then "rope it" at the end of the month. Joke. I know, it's illegal. Did recruiting for a while. Roped about every expense I could. Did it in the midwest. A lot of windshield time. Mark |

I went TAD recruiting twice, the first time wasn't bad. But the second time was a major suck fest. I knew if I re-upped, recruiting would be in my near future. NO THANKS!! I liked the field and being deployed. |

I spent almost all of my 6 years in the Navy (87-93) "haze grey and under-way" I'm glad the Army is working on it's image, but I wonder about some of their choices. Army - Strong, and "one Army - one hat" are a little odd, I do like the idea of military riding jackets, as long as they meet specs for riding on base, which these don't if the same standards the navy and marines use are enforced by the army. There just isn't enough reflective material on the jackets to meet that code. We used to have to wear the orange vests (road-guard vests) with stripes at all times to be "legal" to ride anywhere on a bike (even off base) back then. Of course everyone stopped just off base and peeled the vest off. |

Yeah, and not ALL bases require that you wear it. I rode right on to Offut for 3 years and not once wearing my road guard vest. But, yeah, the vest thing is a joke. I know guys who are senior enlisted and and senior officers who REFUSE to wear that gear. THE SECOND they get off base. Wham! they pull over and take that crap off. Mark |
