I saw a garage door opener on E-bay that connects to your headlight switch. Has anyone tried one of these? Do they work or a waste of money? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem =&item=150068009802&rd=1,1 |

I have an OLD one that came with my house. It is slightly larger than a modern cell phone and it runs off of a 9v battery. Its bulk is an advantahe since I put it in my fron inside pocket with the button facing out. So all I have to do is poke it with my right hand while I'm coasting around the corner. If I time it right, I can pull in without putting my feet down. |

I got a keychain-sized transmitter from Home Depot for $10. It's about the size of a matchbook. After programming, I tucked it under the dash panel with Velcro so I can easily remove it for battery changes, although it hasn't needed a new one in three years. |

I've been looking into options myself. The key sized sounds like the best option for me. With 4 bikes in the garage, I never know which one I'll ride on any given day |

I just used stickyback velcro and put my opener on the cover of my relay box, left of the instrument cluster. Works great. |

I wonder if one of those tiny new versions would work with my antique opener? How standarized is the interface? |

I just wish I had a garage. Then I could get my bikes out of my kitchen. |

Cecil1 - using the actual garage remote can work, it depends on the voltage of the unit .. most are 3-6v which won't allow them to work ... that one you found online does work .. look at all of that brand, I have one that is 100% sealed and paid 5 or 10 bucks less for it. Double sided tape to the back of the speedo or tach, tapped into the wiring harness just behind the neck .. works great. |

I picked up one of the ones off of ebay - it works awesome. The nice thing is I never have to worry about making sure to put it in the jacket I'm wearing for the day, nor can anybody snag it off the bike. It's wired to the highbeam so when I turn onto my road, I flip the switch and by the time I get to my house the door is open. Never have to worry about a battery either. They have a few models...some that work by code (press the learn button on your opener, then activate the opener - your garage door now works with the new opener). They also have the ones that are set by dip-switches. Look at a remote that works and mirror the dipswitch settings. Voila. I may get two more and put them in my cars. Seems stupid but I've heard of people going to a mall for shopping, only to return to their car to find the window broken. The garage door was taken off the visor and their registration was taken. Now they have an address and a way in your house (and potentially hidden parking if they can pull in). |

I also used the keyfob version for my Genie door opener. The Genie one uses 12v, so wiring it in was easy. I just soldered a jumper for the button and connected the battery connections in-line with the horn switch. Blip the horn... open the garage. Been working flawlessly for about a year. |

I bought a Taiddan for my bike. They sent me the wrong one. When I tried to contact them to exchange it for the right one, their website was down, and Ebay had suspended Taiddan's Ebay store account. I ended up getting a key fob transmitter. |
