The Hillbilly Motors site shows some Zodiac "Reduced Height Rocker Covers, finned" that are listed for the Buell M2. Anybody know of anything close, in the US? They cost $1226.00 a pair of rocker covers. There's a very similar-looking pair of Custom Chrome covers for sale on eBay for about $80.00 that is NOT the "reduced height" (1/4 inch shorter is what the Rute66/Zodiac web site says.) Could the US made ones be modified to be similarly shorter? Would the regular ones fit into a Buell M2? That's a big difference in price for 1/4" ! Anybody running any kind of these? I just like the idea of finned, mostly, but the 'lowered' sounds like a real good idea too. I know the cooling effect is not significant, certainly not worth $1226.00, anyway. |

My rear rocker cover contacts the fuel tank on my X1 at idle when the motor is really shaking. It has worn a gouge in the top of the rocker box cover, which I have helped along by grinding it a bit, so as to avoid such contact. Another 1/4 of an inch clearance would go a long way. Not sure it's worth that kind of money though. Also, the fuel tank seems no worse for wear. |

My X1 doesn't do that! Check your isolators. |

You could put XB rocker covers on. I had them on my X1, better breathing and they 'seemed' a bit thinner. |

They're fine. It has done it since it was new. The isolators have been replaced several times, and now are the late model big ones. I took the added step of putting a rubber spacer under the rear of the tank where the strap holds it down. That seemed to keep it off the rocker box. I am considering switching to the XB rocker covers. Many benefits there, and it's not really all that much money to swap them out. |

Also, it isn't just mine. I've seem plenty of pictures of X1 motors with wear marks on the rear rocker. |

Perhaps I am just no observant? I think now I have to check mine out |

Nope I have more than an inch of clearance between my rear rocker and the nearest thing. Mine is a 2000 X1 with a good amount of miles on it. The only thing my rear is rubbing up against is some wiring. |

Could someone post a link to the rocker covers... I can't wade through the website and find them. |

The rub is way up top, near the square hole in the top. The fuel tank has a cube shaped protrusion right above that chimney, and that's where it hits. I have a 99. Does the 2000 model have that same protrusion? |

It's on page 07 42 on the index: http://www.zodiac.nl/UK/Bbook2005/Chapter%2007/ind ex.html You have to select the page manually, on the left hand column, I can't get it to link directly to the page. (Message edited by jayvee on December 27, 2006) |
