So I went there with an open mind, hoping that pictures hadn't done the XB12STT justice, that I would love it once I saw it in person.... And THIS is what I saw: Stenciled spray paint. Yuck. The XBRR didn't do much for me either, dang thing was all dirty, I'd have cleaned it if I was going to display it personally. The whole show was sort of lackluster, not many 2007 anythings on display. The predictable parade of customs of course, and the stunt show was cool. Best part of the day for me was unfettered DEMO rides... Rode a Uly, an XB12SCG, a Blast, and a few "other" bikes as well. Best demo of the day..... the XB12SCG! That thing was awesome! I'm definitely going to lower my ride height after that. Both feet flat on the ground with knees bent. Planted so firmly in the corners, just solid as a rock no matter what I did with it. I was sort of unimpressed by the Ulysses. Having owned a few dual sports in the past, I'd have to say I prefer my old XR650L for off road or trail riding. Our deteriorating freeway system is probably a better place for the Uly. It performed ably, but just not what I'm looking for in a dual-sport type cycle. Anyway, my $0.02 for what it's worth. I'm still in disbelief over the choice of paint jobs they chose to display on the TT. I mean, there must be a flood of contest entries, and they chose that. |

I'm with you on that paint. The first thing I thought when I saw it was that someone from Buell must have let their kids loose on the thing with some craft paints. The paint alone was enough to make me walk away. I also agree that the show was kinda flat. Still, hard not to be happy in a convention center full of bikes! |

Yeah but last year there were more bikes, new stuff. So this year I concentrated on getting in as many demo rides as I could. I drove the car this year, I'll never make that mistake again. I will say that the STT in all white looks better in person than it does in the pictures. I'd rather leave it plain than stencil a bunch of ghetto blasters all over it. I mean, come on... pink and blue poser graffiti? puh-lease.... |

Maybe the paint looks better from a distance? Like a hundred yards? |

Wherever did you gain the impression that the Uly was supposed to be a dual-purpose on/off-road bike? |

Greatshow! The kids in the Ball of Death are some pretty skilled and lucky dudes. They are living quite large. Backflips were cool also! Best bikes in show were MV Sienna MV Brutale Duck 1098 Duck super motard That funky thing with the radial motor, was the coolest cruiser ever. BMW R1200GS The Buell booth seemed pretty quiet......... I like everything about the KTM adventure bikes except the color and use of what seems to be to much plastic. Every time I have gone to that dammed MC show I have spent a lot of money soon after................ I can already feel the wallet trying to empty itself........... |

Pwnzor, When 600cc bikes are faster than a 12r HD and BMC have no choice but to try to sell the XB as a lifestyle bike. Scratch "Own the corners" New catch phrase "Be a Holligan". The grafiti brochures and bikes say it all....................... What day did you hit the show? We were there late Saturday and went over to the Irish pub across the street to party with no less than 40 Santa's. Several of which were screaming hot gals wearing school girl skirts, halter tops, tall boots, long Santa robes and were sporting riding crops............... I am a freak and spent more than my fair share of time in the "Naughty" line..................... I got pictures of some of the gals............ BIG FUN!!!!! |

Not anywhere close. It is, however, a highly competent, comfortable, and versatile street bike. Sorry, that's really getting to be a pet peeve of mine. I'm better now. That TT looks like ass. Looks like they didn't even bother to paint the faux number plates. What else are they good for? |

Wherever did you gain the impression that the Uly was supposed to be a dual-purpose on/off-road bike? Oh gee, I don't know... FROM THE BUELL WEBSITE PERHAPS and I quote "The Ulysses is the first Buell that’s as capable on fire roads as it is on back roads. Increased suspension travel and ground clearance offer exceptional performance regardless of how rough the roads might get." I thought that the RR was hidden away somewhere, but the guys on the show floor said that it was not at the show! The RR was outside at the demo ride trailer. Skyguy, I was there on Sunday and it was a beautiful day for demo rides. As for the bikes on display I'd say over 90% were the SAME bikes from last year's show. I started outside doing demo's and when I went inside I made one quick lap, snapped a few pics and went right back out for more demo rides. I rode 6 different bikes, so it was a good time. |

It may seem like splitting hairs, but Buell has been careful to say the Uly is intended for any kind of road, not "off road". Nowhere in your quote from Buell does it say "off road". No doubt a made-for-the-purpose off road bike would far outperform it in the really rough stuff. OTOH, some of the Uly riders (especially at advrider) are finding the Uly is capable of handling more rough stuff than Buell claims. |

All I ever did was offer my opinion about the bike. And here comes the pep squad, lambasting me about "it's not a dual sport" and "how could you get the impression"... I explained where someone could EASILY get the impression. Fire roads are OFF ROAD. You don't see street signs on a fire road. They have names like "2N04", not "Elm Street". Some of the fire roads around here are so rough that the US Forestry service won't even venture down them, unless there is actually a fire. So, yes, fire roads are off road. They are only called roads because they vaguely resemble them in that there is somewhat of a path cleared between vegetation and obstacles. I'll reiterate that it says "regardless of how rough the roads might get". The Uly is an XB series motorcycle and as such is a great thing. I offered my opinion that it is more capable ON road than off. But for some reason any time anything SLIGHTLY negative gets said, no matter how objective, LOOK OUT.... |

BAM! So why did they install those defectors ahead of the hand grips? In all of my dirt day's those were meant to deflect branches and other things which could smack the bars and my hand while trailriding. Are these meant to deflect the wind only? |

Dang Pwnzor, I didn't really mean to side with Blake on something... All I meant to say, in response to your comment that you'd rather use your old XR650L off-road than a new Uly was: "Well, duh." |

I dont think my City X is supposed to be used on fire roads either, but damn the engineers that say I can't. I will post some of my back woods hooligan when they get developed. TT be damned, I would have liked the bigger tank, tall ground clearance, longer wheel base, but give my my ORANGE!

Your bike looks great Cityxslicker! Hughlysses, it's not a big deal, but honestly what I meant is that I'd rather have an XR650L period. I just think that Buell keeps trying to go vertical with these bikes when they should be going horizontal. Give me a longer Firebolt and maybe I'll get my own pom poms. |
