So I went for a great 4 hour ride today thru alpine onto route 79 into Julian then to Ramona and back thru Mount Laguna. I twas great UNTIL the ride home. I was going home on route 8 at about 95 mph. I saw a cop far behind me and thought I could make it so I sped up to about 110. When the traffic broke he came out of nowhere and ended up behind me. I'm a total idiot so I pulled over. We bs'd a little bit (he liked my Buell). He didn't impound my bike ( cuz I only have a permit still and I was on a freeway) but I did get a 85 in a 65. I'm new to California. How much is it? How many points is it? If only I was a little further up on the freeway, I could have taken an exit and booked but I was right next to a mall and all the exits were for the mall. |

Very smart......here in NY state a young fellow didnt stop. The trooper that was chasing him crashed his Chevy Tahoe and died. They charged the cycle rider with man slaughter. His trial is going on right now near Syracuse NY. |

I have been pulled over for speeding on my Buell multiple times, but have never gotten a ticket. Every single time, the officer just shot the breeze about my bike for a few minutes and told me to chill out on the speed. That's why I now run an Escort Passport 8500 X50. I would strongly recommend going ahead and pulling over. There's always a good chance if you're cool with the cop they'll show some mercy. If you get nailed, well that's the price you pay for making it a habit of tapping the rev limiter in 5th. |

I got an 85 in a 65 on the toll road in Orange County, it cost me about $175 and one point. |

Heck, I'm still wondering how I managed NOT to get a ticket the other week. Don't get me wrong, I've quite thankful to the powers that be, just amazed is all. There I am, happily zipping along the 91 freeway passing through Riverside on my way to Palm Springs. Its late Friday night (day after Thanksgiving)..oh about 10pm, very few cars at all. speedo says I'm doing a steady 90mph, bike is feeling smooth and stable..and its COLD!! ya, no excuse to be speeding but part of why i was eager to get to final destination and into a hot jacuzzi and relaxing. Anyway, as I said, I'm zipping along passing the occasional car. Wa..huh? did i just blow past a cop???!!! Yep! (begins cursing to self for the inevitable flashing lights) . He wasn't even parked, he was going along in the lane next to me. ...... waiting..... easy of the throttle... ??.... wait some more. no flashing lights?! What do i do I am thinking to myself. So i just keep going, at a much slower pace. Nothing, didn't flash me, follow or anything. WOOHOOO!!! Confused.. but very happy. |

On my way back from the dealer meeting in Vegas a couple years ago I was on I70 in Utah and was going a steady 100 or so on my FLHT. I saw a Ford truck up ahead, pulled over into the hammer lane and as I went past it I noticed the HIGHWAY PATROL emblem on the side of it! I just looked over, gave the officer a little "peace sign wave" and kept going. No sense in slowing down at that point. Lights on his dash never came on This was on a stretch that has nothing for 110 miles. I was thinking he was just going to catch up to me at the other end and take me to jail but he never pulled into the gas station. |

Ferret_B It was late in the month and the cop had made his monthly quota already. Yes, count yourself lucky. Asbjorn |

no as you stated it was probably too cold for the officer to get out of his warm car to write you a ticket! |

I was pulled over this summer, although I did not get off the hook but I was certainly spared... I was caught going 85 on mulholland by the rockstore, in what I think was a 35(?) zone. Fortunately he just put that I was going above the California speed limit (65) so it ended up being $150 including the class. I think this was due to that he was going in the opposite direction and that I quickly pulled over and waited for him to turn around... |

Obviously the reason for the ticket was me trying to book on him but if the traffic didn't clear, I could have taken an exit and been fine. Oh yeah, and I only have a permit for the bike. I'm lazy. So I'm glad I didn't get arrested and impounded. Do I have to take the class before I pay it or after?? I'm still new to CA laws. |

you take the class after you pay for the ticket... But when you are paying for the ticket you must specify that you intend to do so. After that its up to you to find the class, personally I highly recommend on of the online deals. |

Don't know how it works in Cali, but in Maine, if you get a moving violation on a permit, you lose the permit. |

Let's face it, it's a shell game with the cops out there, I have been ticketed every time I have been stopped in New York State by troopers and I am as nice as pie to them and everything has been legal - except the speed of course. No cop has ever wanted to shoot the shit about my Buells. It seems to be a total revenue gathering exercise in all cases. I have never been doing more than 20 over in any case on dry roads in rural areas , they just need to meet their quotas, I suppose. |

I got a "engaged in speed contest" ticket in November and had to hire a lawyer. Pulled me over 6 miles later. No way did he witness. I think someone phoned it in but still havent heard what is on the police report. Crossing my fingers I can get this down or dropped. 12 points is not a good thing. I've been stopped 4 times and only ticketed once. 1. Got stopped doing rolling through stop signs and wheelying through a deserted business park. The officer read me the riot act and then started talking about his Fatboy. Looked at the Buell... let me go with a warning. 2. Stopped for passing 4 cars in a row that were perfectly staggered on the highway - the last car was a police car. Checked my paperwork, looked at the Buell and let me go with a warning. 3. Stopped for doing 80 in a 55. The officer gave me a ticket for 69 in 55. No Buell talk, but I was happy about the break. 4. Stopped for doing a U-turn on a one way street, riding the wrong way up a one way street, operating a motor vehicle on a pedestrian sidewalk, and illegal parking. I got the siren for that one... but let go with a warning. |

I got stopped by a state cop on the interstate. 80 in a 65, I was lucky - 2 miles earlier would have been hell to explain. He took my license, registration and such back to his car and sat there for an inordinate amount to time. He eventually signals me back to his car and ask me to spell buell. I do. "are you sure?" he ask. Yep. He can't find buell in the database. He's scrolling through literally thousands of all makes and models of cars and can't find buell anywhere. Eventually he gives me a warning and we talk about my bike for 10 mins. Thanks officer, have a nice day... |

Mike, I've been wanting to meet up with you guys , but in the last year whenever you have been doing something i have been busy or away, we'll definitely do something next year. I live in Manhattan now but keep my bikes up in our house just outside of New Paltz. I also ride a Uly now instead of the XB9S |
