I have seen some sportbikes with this spinning brake lite.

It spins until you hit the brakes, then it flashes? Flashing red lights on a bike. Legal?

I have seen a few on the road. I want to pick up one.

Here's a ebay listing.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUELL-BLAST-S1-S3-X B9-XB12-FIREBOLT-BRAKE-LIGHT-SPINNER_W0QQcmdZViewI temQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ013QQitemZ230061316913QQrd Z1

Will this make me safer or the object of target fixation? I could possibly see some drunk trying to follow the pretty spinning lite.

What do yall think?

Legal? Safer?

I used to run two of them. People noticed them, that's for sure. Some hated them.

I got stopped by a cop in Myrtle Beach a few years ago, but he just wanted to look at it. He said it was legal, as far as he knew.

i had one on mine for awhile. the spinning light got peoples attention, but the main problem with the one i had was that i didnt like it consistently flashing while on the brake. it should settle down and be solid shortly after a few flashes. otherwise people dont realize its a brake.

mine also had this problem with being a little generic and wiggling around causing it to not connect and turn off. no tail light= not cool, lol. even bending the contacts closer wouldnt completely solve it

The packages I've seen state the bulb is NOT DOT approved = illegal.
Ride behind one of your buddies with LED replacement bulbs in their tail light, it makes them much smaller since the LEDs do not reflect off of the chrome housings. The spinning ones have only 1 LED out of several lit at a time, small and annoying as well.
Want a second opinion, ask the cage driver if he saw you before he "butt slammed" you through the intersection................

states differ on the legality of these things --

I used to run one, til I noticed that riders of a certain age would be humming Grateful Dead tunes and smiling to themselves while following me --

i stopped running mine, for allthe reasons named above --

the Blast in out motorpool ate them at a rapid rate, which was due, I think, to a poor fit inthe socket (also mentioned above)

I have [re]learned to pay attention to traffic behind me and simply release and flash my brake light manually a few times as cars approach.

It works, it costs $zero, and it re-enforces something you should not (and someday you will realize - can not) take for granted - your awareness and participation in traffic. No amount of lights, reflectors, or noise will make up for or cancel out the stupidity of others.

I got stopped for speeding a couple of times on my XB9S which had the spinning light , neither of the cops in NY ever said anything about it.

we live in florida, and have the spinners on both buells...never ever had a problem with them, and they work well...good heads up to people behind you.

Ours were purchased at HD...drag specialties packages them..there are other makers as well, cycle gear also sells them

I used one for a bit. My riding buds didn't like it for some reason.

I had them on the S3 when I bought it. Went on two long rides with two different groups of people. Both sets commented on liking them but being mesmerized by them over time. I decided I didn't like someone behind me being mesmerized and gave them away.
