I haven't seen it yet. I suspect they used a punch tool on the lock. I will find out when I pick it up. I was just glad they another xb to practice on. As soon as I hear what they did I will post an update. |

All of this hijacking could have been avoided if the original poster had not made the mistake of assuming that the vandalism (which is all he really knew it was) was an attempt by a "crackhead" to "steal" the bike. It could have been a lot of things other than this...but "crackheads" are easy (and so much fun!) to pick on....like mothers on public assistance. You guys would not make very good criminal investigators... As for the real question, the tumbler can be drilled with a 1/4" bit, being very careful not to drill too deep...and into the tank. Do it a little at a time. All you are trying to do is free the pins . I would take it to a locksmith rather than the dealer...he will be more likely to know what to do than some hamfisted HD tech. jimidan |

Jimidan - now you are stereotyping HD techs as hamfisted. Easy targets I guess. |

Jamie: I've got a Xena Disklock/alarm for mine. It definitely locks up a wheel so you can't roll it more than the circumference of the disk, and it would be pretty darn hard to cut off. As for the alarm, I'm not very impressed with it. As far as sitting on the bike (even taking it off the kickstand), it will not respond. I am even able to crank the bike and it still will not go off most of the time. Now if the bike rolls, it will go off. So, it's not the best thing to ever come to the motorcycle security market, but for $80 it'll keep your bike where it's parked unless they've got enough guys to pick it up and a truck to haul it away. Basically, it keeps honest folks honest, which is pretty much what you will find with most any form of security you try to protect your bike with. Would I buy another one knowing what it does now? Well, I think the price is a little high, but I probably would. However, I would recommend if you're going to spend $80 on an alarm, I would go ahead and get a full-fledged alarm system, preferably with motion detection so people are warned away before they even touch the bike. Thinking about doing this myself should I ever have need to frequently park it outside my garage. |

I thought about the Xena alarm, but I came to same conclusion you did. It is just not sensitive enough. I have also heard it eats batteries. I did pick up an interesting alarm from Aerostich. http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Aerostich-Self -Contained-Alarm-p-17040.html I don't have the bike back yet, but I have been playing with this alarm. For its size (about the size of a deck of cards) it is VERY loud. I can see all sorts of uses for this. Such as leaving it in a saddle bag when traveling. I will have a full review when the bike is back. |

when you get your bike back try putting it under your seat and setting off the alarm to see how loud it is. i'm kind of interested to see what that would do in a spot like that. |

A follow up to my tale I just got the bike back... Yes it took over a month and no it is not fixed... But I can't blame the dealer for this. It turns out the dealer ordered the entire lockset, well BMC twice sent out the incorrect parts. When they ordered it for the third time BMC placed the items on backorder. ETA, no one knows. But in the mean time the dealer felt so bad about the delay they took a cap off one of the showroom bike, and loaned it to me. When the part come in they will call and I have them installed. As a bonus since the shop was a little quiet, they took the time to perform a oil change (syn3), lubed my cables, and other basic maintenance stuff. They even detailed my bike while it was there. Best part, since I was on fumes when I arrived at the dealer, they filled up my tank with premium. Charge to me, nothing. Don't try to tell my some Buell dealers are not committed to their customers. Nevrenuf, I didn't forget about you, I will play with the alarm today. I can tell you already it is not worth $85... But too late now to return it. I will post a formal review in the KV later when I'm finished. |
