The lesson here clearly is "don't freak out".

That's a good rider to not have done something stupid, either right before or right after the hit.

Didn't look like he had much of a choice to do anything.

That had to be one small deer. Have you ever seen what a good sized deer does to your car?!

It was a smaller deer, from the quick glimpse there I'd guess 50 pounds or so live weight maybe.

It looked like the impact on the deer was on the neck and head and that spun the animal around and it passed down the side of the bike and hit the ground behind it. That may account for the guy retaining control.

With all the pieces of plastic and fiberglas coming off I'd think the headlight/fairing area took the impact and was pretty well destroyed.

Lucky guy for sure though.

I know a bus mechanic that hit a deer on his Suzuki GSXR750, 150mph. After he did his get off, the bike traveled over a half mile further before going into the ditch. The deer was split in half, the steering head broke off when it went in the ditch. He broke both forearms and both wrists. His friends had gone another way so he had to dial 911 his self, painful to say the least.
He hasn't got another bike......yet.

Yesterday I drove a 10 mile section of road that was littered with deer carcasses, almost comical because they were one after the other, until you think of all the damage that was done and backstraps that have gone to waste.

The Horror, the horror!
