Well the last month and half I've been in home improvement mode recently finding out Baby #2 is coming. Got the call there was a going to be run of local buellers. I'm all happy because other than commuting to work I really haven't had a chance to go on a nice ride. We had around ten people and I was behind a Gixxer going into a corner. Here's where it gets blurry. He was down or almost went down, doesn't matter he was stopped in the corner. I hit my brakes and all I remember was doing the "CHECK" and trying to walk.. I was a little disoriented and my back hurt and I ended up going to hospital immobilized not very fun. A few X-rays and a few hour later I was released. Docs says I’ll really be hurting worse in the morning. I’m hurting now got a good hipper coming up and other aches and pains.. Need to go to an orthopedist this week, my hip is Yoked up a cane is a very hand thing… I was geared up head to toe. Good Helmet, Sidi Boots, Good leather gloves, Rocket jacket with the good built in back protector. My only regret is not wearing a good separate back protector that also covers more of the lower back. Instead of some heavy jeans some good leather or textile bottoms with padding and ability to keep the jacket and pant together. That’s were I got some rash. ALL GEAR ALL THE TIME… |

Hey Ted, sorry to hear about your getoff today. I hope you're up and riding again soon. That's good advice on the gear. I would add using the best tires money can buy in good condition and checking the bike's main systems such as brakes, throttle, and lights over carefully before every ride. I read somewhere that there should be similarities between what we're doing on the road and what aircraft pilots are doing in the sky. In both situations, our lives depend upon good equipment. As for a good backprotector, I am using a Planet-Knox Gilet Air. It's got a back protector that covers the entire back and tailbone, kidney pads, and a chest protector. I would highly recommend one. Getting it through customs is a pain, but it can be done. I would also recommend their cross-sport shorts. They've got armor in the thighs, coccyx, hiney cheeks, and hip bone protectors up the sides that wrap around the front of your hips as well. With these two pieces under your leathers equipped with good knee and elbow armor, you'd be good to go. Both pieces including international shipping will run you about $435 dollars. |

Ouch. Sorry you went down Ted. I'm glad you came out of it pretty much in tact though! 2 piece leathers are the best investment you can make in protecting the largest organ you have. Your skin. Full circumference zipper is a good thing to check for. BTW how's the bike? have you looked it over yet, or are you kind of afraid to? Also congrats on the 2nd bambino on the way! Glad you aren't worse off for wear. Best wishes for quick healing and full recovery. We know another Greek "Ted" who wasn't as fortunate as you in a crash, but man what an inspiration he is in how he handled adversity. You seem much the same. Is a positive attitude a Greek trait? If so, will eating more olives help others assimilate that for themselves? |

All and all not bad. Be very happy that Buell parts are as inexpensive as they are You should compare repair costs with one of the guys on a japanese bike. Yes, your scapula (shoulder blade) is something that can't be set like a nose, or finger. |

Sorry for your trouble and glad you're OK! Use this opportunity to trade out those crappy stock pegs (and levers). Don't forget to replace the sliders on the rear. Things would have looked much worse without them. Oh, yeah and better bar ends... and more gear. |

Ben there, done that. Last Thursday as a matter of fact. About 2 hours after I collected my new Uly. You'll be really sore today and tomorrow. It is amazing how the Uly withstands damage. I got about the same thing, handguard, outer turn signal lens, scrapes on the windshield, faring, mirror and fork guard. The ugly mirrors had to go anyway. Bill |

Went back to the crash site this morning.. I had to get out and walk it, to get the same perspective as I would on a bike.. I needed some closure and to sort some things out.. It was good to sorta of figure things out though.. When get my bike back I'm going to beat the shit out of those corners until content then maybe stop and piss on the spot where I wrecked.. I have 5 weeks of Physical therapy ahead of me. My first session went well, but in the morning I was sore as hell.. Still have bruising coming out.. |

Be glad for the bruising coming out. I had bleeding under my left quad that never showed a bruise but left a football sized lump on my leg for about 8 weeks (sealed in blood). Was about to get a large needle inserted there to have it removed when it finally started going away. I'm still doing physical therapy two years later. (For that and a bunch of broken bones; leg, pelvis, arm) Look at it this way... Soreness and therapy means you're still around Learn from the experience and be a better rider. |
