Gotta share this with the bad web brethren (the select few who understand the life-altering experience of a biker's first wheelie). Been riding for 40+ yrs. - never learned to wheelie. Today it happened - did a 2 foot controlled wheelie on my XB12Ss. To assure it was not a fluke - did a bunch more. Yup Got It Up! - Now - need to learn how to keep it up. Was that a clutch up wheelie in 2nd? No - just learned to do a clutch wheelie in 1'st. My method - coast about 5mph in first, clutch in about 1/4 of the way, clutch lever held by index finger and social finger (little & ring fingers still on grip), take up to 4,500 rpm, pop clutch = 2' wheelie. Will my XB12SS do a 2'nd gear wheelie??? how do I do it????. Also is it possible to do a throttle wheelie with the Buell - tried and tried - get only an inch or so??????? |

It'll do it without the clutch. Just give it some gas and practice. Wait??? Did you say you have been riding 40 years and never pulled a wheelie??? |

Been riding 40+ yrs. on mostly big fat touring bikes and cruisers. My other current bike is a Honda ST-1100 - never even thought of trying a wheelie on this - but gonna give it a try today. |

Sorry about all of the confusion. The title line "got it up" was intended for the double meaning. Thought it would be funny. The rest of the thread is fact - indeed this was my first controlled motorcycle wheelie |

Have you had uncontrolled wheelies? |

Be sure to cover the rear brake with your foot when practicing ( or doing at all! ) wheelies. That way, you can bring the front down, if you get too high. It is possible to flip a 1200cc machine with the Buell's torque nature right over to land on you. Check out the idiot vids on youtube & elsewhere. That said, my first real wheelie on my M2 was a surprise, in a hard shift to second. |
