My new parish priest rides a 1993 Dyna Wide Glide - my question is - the front cam/ignition cone has two bolts just behind and to the rear bottom of the cone - the lower bolt - what are its specs, stock number, and and torque value? GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Directly below the air cleaner, the cam cover cone? - has 2 bolts to the bottom and rear - about a half inch shorter than a primary Buell Blast/XB bolt - same otherwise - have a washer and nut making up the space right now as a temp fix. but would like the right part number and torque value - http://www.motoviniati.com/product_thumb.php?img=images/items/vhV17911exh06.jpg&w=135&h=135 this link takes you to a better pic. In the link pic you can see the top bolt just above the header - I need the specks to the bottom bolt under it. Thank you. GT - JBOTDS! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on November 13, 2006) |

The "cone" is called the gear cover. I have a SM and parts book for a '97 FXD and can provide some info from that. If you're talking about the screws around the bottom that hold the gear cover to the crankcase they are: 4718A SCREW (2 pieces) 1/4-20 x 1-1/2 knurled socket hd, w/washer, w/lockpatch 4740A SCREW 1/4-20 x 1-1/4 knurled socket hd, w/lockpatch The 4718A screws are the two screws lowest and furthest to the rear holding the cover on. The 4740A is the forward most of the three around the bottom of the cover. Two other unlikely but possible candidates are: 3480A SCREW 1/4-20 x 1-3/4 knurled socket head, grade 8 4813A SCREW 1/4-20 x 1-3/8 knurled socket hd, w/lockpatch The torque value for all the cover screws is 90-120 in-lbs (7.5-10 ft-lbs). Those are all 1/4-20 (probably Grade 8) screws. If you're not familiar with the issue of bolts occasionally breaking or (even worse, stripping), settle for less than the maximum value as soon as something in your head say "that's probably tight enough". The parts book lists four different parts numbers for the screws on the cover which, as you can see above, relates to lengths, washers, lockpatches, etc. Blue LocTite is probably appropriate for any bolts not "lockpatched" or that were previously used.
