I searched for something on this subject and came up with nothing. So apologies if I'm asking about something that has already been discussed. Anyway, I rode a R this weekend and preferred the ride position to my S. I installed the Crossroads flat bars, but want to complete the transformation with higher and set more to the rear foot pegs. Anyone know if this can be as simple as swapping my S rear sets for R's? Anyone with an R want to trade for my S's? By the way, mine's a 05 if that makes a difference. |

The difference between the R and the S is that the S has a 1 inch drop built in the foot pegs, and the R has the pegs mounted normal. The peg mounting location is identical for both models. All you would need is to order a set of R pegs, no other changes are necessary. |

Thanks for the quick reply Erik. I suspected as much about the height, but the R felt like it was a bit more to the rear as well. Maybe it was the bar placement that made it seem that way. I know the frames are identical, but it felt a lot different than my S. Hoping the bars and rear sets will give me something close. Glad to hear they bolt right on. Looking for a trade... |

...OR... Buy the Traction Pegs from the Buel Accessory catalog and you have more comfy, vibe damping pegs. Thats what I did on my City and I have the R foot position, which I like a lot. --Sean |

I've got the Crossroads cleated pegs. They're much more comfortable than the stockers and grip well too. They're almost twice as wide for better support and seem to do a good job of isolating vibration. Since I started this thread, I went over to ebay and found a set of R rear sets off a wreck. The auction isn't over for six days though, so unfortunately the price will probably go up quite a bit since I'm already in a bid war with another guy six days out. I also sent Dave a message to see what new ones would cost me. I'd still be interested in a trade if anyone is looking for a more relaxed ride position. Mine are in flawless new condition. |

Woodcraft is a local company that makes what appears to be very high quality parts. I am in the process of setting up a dealer account with them, and hope to be stocking their products soon. They make rearsets and clipons for the Buell XB bikes. |

Another thought about this conversion: What about the brake pedal? If I'm raising my peg height and the brake pedal mount position an inch, will I run into a master cylinder linage problem if I don't move it up an inch too? I don't think I've got an inch to play with in the adjuster. As for the shifter, I think there's enough adjustment to compensate so I should be OK on the left side. I know I'm not the first one to want to do this. Anyone got any advice from their own experience? |

Or does the master cylinder mount on the rear set itself? Guess I should have gotten off my tail and went out to the garage to look. |

Don't worry, there is enough adjustment in the stock linkage to swap pegs from s to r, or vice versa, It has been done many times. Adding the R fairing to an S should be fairly easy. You will need to swap ignition switches and top triples, or find an alternate location for the ignition switch. It is far easier to put the r fairing on the s than s on the r because of the location of the electronics. Putting an r tail on an s requires finding places to mount the same electronic bits that the R hides behind the fairing. |

Good looking bike Chris. Thanks for the offer Jack. Brian, I was mostly interested in duplicating the ride position, but I will probably want to do the full conversion sooner or later. Unfortunately, now my master cylinder won't let me use the windscreen I was using and will need to come up with another solution. Thanks for the ideas on the LightningBolt. I'll mull what I want to do over a bit and start looking around for parts. There is a set of R rear sets on ebay right now, and I'm going to see what Jack wants for his too. So, looks like this little conversion will be a snap! Found two different sets within 24 hours. Not bad availability of parts, eh? |

Reply from Daves: "Rear sets? Like in aftermarket ones? If you are thinking stock, the brackets are the same between a R and a S, just the pegs are different." Hey guys, what am I looking for here? I thought the brackets (rear sets) were an inch shorter, thus raising the peg mount locations an inch. Is the height difference in the footpeg or the footpeg mount location? |

The mounts are exactly the same, the inch drop is in the actual footpeg on the Lightning. |

Thanks Michael. That's a sharp looking LightningBolt you've got there. That paintjob is tops. So, I've got Crossroads pegs now. Guess that's as close as I'm going to get. Thanks man. |
