Just saw an extended article in the Dec issue of Motorcyclist. I was so pissed I wrote a letter to the magazine. They fawn over this very limited production American-made sport bike (well, it has a Korean motor and was designed by a French design firm) and make such pronouncements as "most important American motorcycle in decades" & "the bike Milwaukee is afraid to build" without a single mention of Buell in the entire article. The thing also has even less power than an XB9, let alone XB12. There are numerous quotes from the company owner, Dan Fischer, about no American alternatives. They compare it to an SV650! This is the most blatant, anti-Buell slant I have seen in the mainstream press by the completely ignoring the marque that was the first modern sport bike designed, developed & manufactured in the US. What's really funny is they go on about how the design is based on the VR1000 "the best handling superbike ever". bet they didn't say that when it was racing. The piece reads like a paid advertisement, not objective reporting. |

Khollister, Use Google to get new bike info. Use cash saved from not buying "Mid-lifer Squid Monthly" to buy gas for the bikes "Milwaukee (and Troy)was brave enough to build". And most importantly, brush and floss after meals and before bedtime The more you know! |

ah, do a little lurking on the squid sites and you find that they aren't fooled. They know what it is and what it is not. |

think back to the original motorcyclist test of the xb9r. nice pick of a stand-up wheelie on a white xb. then they proceeded to make fun of the manufacturer in the first paragraph. blasted almost every aspect of the bike, especially the geometry(too radical to ever work). i believe they started out with something like "set aside your belief's of how much buell sucks for a moment, they'll be safely returned to you after the article). an obnoxious abuse of their bully pulpit. the amount of damage done to a tiny company by a respected national publication like must have been very disheartening to those who worked so hard to bring the machine to life. fast forward 5 years and there is a tiny article by boehm about riding a "properly" set up xb at a race. he proceeds to gush about the handling and stability. uh ya, nice job guys... |

I've been out of the sportbike scene for many years and started picking up CW, MC and Sport Rider once in a while. Cycle World is still enjoyable mostly because of Egan's column. I'll certainly cross Motorcyclist off the list after this. maybe I'll stick to the "The Horse", "American Iron" and classic bike mags. What a bunch of hacks. |

I dont mean to burst anybody's bubble, but the MRX is dyno'd at 77HP at the REAR WHEEL. Thier numbers are not crank. |

It's a Hyosung 650 90 degree twin. Same as the UM, Ridley and Suzuki Sv650. It's the new all serving tractor motor. |

How would that burst any bubbles? Factory specs can't be relied upon of anything more than spin.
I thinks it's very good to have some competition regardless of what any magazine says. I didn't buy my bike because of a magazine, and I'm almost sure none of y'all did either. Magazines give an opinion, opinions are like ... well, you know. |

I've noticed that usually when they mention Buell HP and TQ numbers it always seems to be "at the rear wheel". When ever others are mentioned it is the "factory claimed rating". Then there is the continual complaint of hitting the rev limiter too soon...well duh..shift sooner, stay in the power band, go faster, quicker! They just don't seem to care to learn how to use the power. Their inability to shift soon enough is a great tribute to just how fast Buell engines will rev under load though! |

Yeah I was reading article in my friend Squidly McSquid's copy of "Prissycyclist" and it gave me quite the chuckle. Even more so after reading Caterson's "FIRST RIDE!" of the XBRR a few pages later. Checked my hands for burns after handling that Waffle Iron, "Lets leave it at that". Nice close to a waste of ink.....what a Nancy. (I need caffeine,I am way to edgy for this time of the morning!) |
