OK, Craig, so let's say you,Ralph and me are going to ride to Burger King. You invited us. You lead, we have planned on going to lunch that day for a week.
I crash while following you.
I can sue you now?

I understand we live in a really stupid law world but?

Steve, that is a good idea about becoming HOG members but just doing our own thing.
Would we have to call our rides HOG rides then to be covered?

That's the whole point. Under the BRAG legal umbrella, if we followed standard procedures, having release forms signed by non members, etc... We had our asses covered as a group, as well as the dealership.

Dunno about the HOG thing.. Yet. I'll be talking with Kirk to see what Brew City's options are early next week. The HOG thing is somewhat of a last ditch effort IMHO. But it is an option.

Just become HOG members for the insurance coverage and run your own rides. If a group of HOG members go out for a ride, planned route or not, they are covered - as long as it is a club ride. Just send an email to the director that you are having a ride and you should be covered. If they want to announce it to their chapter, fine. I doubt very much that any would decide to attend.

As always, you can invite guests, as long as it is a 1 to 1 ratio with members. Just have them sign the HOG releases instead of BRAG.

Exactly my point Craig!
Thank you.

I wonder if new Buell buyers will get a free one year membership in HOG now?

Just charter your former-BRAG club under the AMA and you can use their insurance when planning runs. When getting the AMA Sanction you sit through a Risk Management Seminar once every two years and that's all the requirement you need to insure your event. No biggie.

Of course, in order for your club to become AMA Chartered, you need at least 10 members who belong to the AMA (and if they don't, they should anyway).

I'm the Vice President of Road Riding District 34 here in Metro New York. We have quite a few HOG Chapters that are also AMA Chartered clubs. My own personal club is an "All-brands" club that happens to have three Buells in it now.

BRAG is HOG, HOG is BRAG. My membership # is the same for both. BRAG members are to be welcomed at all HOG events & all HOG members to be welcomed at BRAG events. In the Dealership Communication that I just finished reading clearly states that you can become a member of HOG if you have a Buell vin#. Some of us may want to do that, some of us wont. I spent $300 to become a life member in HOG, and I would be pissed if my Buell vin didn't keep my foot in the door. As for not being welcomed at your local HOG chapter meetings, The Chapter officers should read their Chapter handbooks! Buell riders can do all the HOG stuff (just faster) FYI...I am the Director of the Columbus Ohio Chapter and I no longer own a Harley...had 3...now I have 2 Buells and not one person in my Chapter has said anything to me about it. Most people are happy that someone will take the time to put events & rides together... This is my last year as HOG Director...I was stepping down so I could start the BRAG Club...NO BIG DEAL!! I can still do what I wanted to do under the HOG umbrella....

Everyone.... sit back take a big breathe of fresh air. See whats instore, findout how its gonna work before you pass your judgements. I've been a part of Brag quite some time and an officer for 6 years of the 7. I've seen just about all clubs take some pitfalls and lose there members and dwindle down to a small handful more then once per a club. Then it bounces back some. I really want to see this unfold I think this could be a fresh start.

I am a former BRAG member since 1997. I've thoroughly enjoyed every event I've been able to attend. I didn't reup this year because I knew I wouldn't make any of this years dates. I've just tried entering my Vin #'s for my 97 and 99 Buells on the Buell owners site. It won't take the #'s.
Anyone else have that problem? I've had a profile on the Buell site for sometime.

I've typed and re-typed my VIN in every way I can think of and just tried switching the 1 for an I but I still get an Invalid VIN message. I'll just try to get in touch when I get in from offshore.

Yes sit back, remember Buell agreed to dissolve BRAG. I'm sure they met alot considering all the options
Now think about this, name all the brand related clubs that exist in unison with the manufacturers. I will start Gold Wing Road Riders (GWWRA),BMW Owners of America (BMWMOA), I know Triumph has one. They are BIG groups, and the manufacturers WORK WITH THEM. And the manufacturer does not CONTROL THEM.
We have a good nucleus here on Badweb and other boards. Court has a name already, maybe Buell corp has a similiar idea for us. Then WE THE MEMBERS are in control of events, rides, etc. etc.
I have also served as an AMA club president, vice president, referee, board member so I have dealt with the releases etc. No big deal.
It's just CHANGE people, and most of us don't like change.
And I too have met my best friends(and my BEST friend) from Buell related activities. Plus I just had the dream experience of my life THANKS to Buell/BRAG event contacts I made. And I own 2 Buells now and will buy more because of the Buell community, you are great people, always willing to lend a hand or share a technique for our Buells.

Just my 2 cents.

If not anything else - we are a group that puts a lot of thought into things (perhaps a little on the conspiracy theorist). If we are going to be able to run things, more or less our way - can't see any reasons why it would work out.

I'm still trying to update my profile to add my VIN. I keep getting "System error. Please try again in the future. " Re-check VIN number repeatedly. Tried it with Firefox and IE 6 and get the same message.

Anyone else having this problem?

The new web features are having lots of problems now but folks are working diligently on them.

I'm all for the sit back, take a deep breath and watch.

I think this is going to be a very good thing and see some wonderful opportunites.

On the litigation , we're still laughing here in New York City about the gal who sued the Rolling Stones for $51,000,000 last week because they cancelled (and rescheduled a show). She got stuck having to "endure" driving from Long Island to Atlantic City in the rain and paying for a $300 suite in the hotel.

Ahhhh....the pain of it all.

Hey wolf.....Weeble suggested we start our own non brag bike club.........I am game. To be real honest I could care less whether it is Brag or Buell affiliated. I just would like a decent group of people to ride with.

There is no love lose with Farrows so an independant club would be fine. Besides when I bought my bike in May Zak was supposed to have already filed to form the new chapter. Ya like as if.

Wolf the service writer could not believe you bought a ULY. Huge eye roll and told me you were the director of the hog chapter.

I'm game for starting a Club...But I do like the HOG Chapter...Made a lot of friends and went on a lot of good rides.. I am going to see what the Dealership wants to do about BRAG going in the trash..I'm sure we can role it all in one big BOG/HOG pie and just keep riding...thats the key...ride and have fun!

I'm not going to wade through all these posts, so I'll cut to chase. If you want an active club, make your own. For example, ASBN is not an "official" BRAG club, but it is the biggest and best Buell club in the US, not to mention the longest running. You don't need factory backing to be an enthusiast or to have a club.

Ceejay......When I bought my bike my salesman took me over to speak to Zak and He said that he was starting a new BRAG chapter at Farrows.

Yes Zak has always been a nice guy, I think he intended to start the chapter but either was not allowed or never got a round to it.

Jon -- great point -- I'll add that the Buell-specific events I've atteneded that I enjoyed the most were pretty much home-grown -- there WAS factory involvement to various levels, but only after some owners got involved and started the ball rolling

I'm thinkin about the Team Elves gathering at Uke's a few years ago, the 20th, and like that -

those dealers and individuals that made things happen will likely continue to do so

besides, think of the opportunity for illegal t-shirts/patches!

I'm all for the change. The BRAG groups in Jersey never really worked well including the one I was an officer in. The HOG guys were ambivalent at best and some were downright hostile. I felt like a square peg in a round hole at the POT training. Most of the "BRAG" rides I attended were very informal and included probably a third of other sport bikes which is a good thing. They were all great fun by the way. My personal feeling is that there is more than enough structure in life and I don't need it in my recreation too. Especially in motorcycling which to me is all about freedom.

I've been a member since 2000 but never of a local club, and I'm paid up through 2008- that included two 3-year renewals and two bike purchases. It's going to take more than free issues of FUELL to make me happy.

So, are you guys with the long term multi-year BRAG memberships feeling a little used? There are laws in most states that prevent businesses from bailing on customers with long term contracts, like health clubs (gym) memberships. Check you local laws as you may be covered.
