Tattoodnscrewd(AKA Sleepy Brian to those of us in Brew City), had 'catch can mount' envy of my custom catch can mount for my S3T. Here's the 3D model that I used. The Catch Can is just the standard one that American Sport Bike sells. But it comes with a cheesy(IMHO) looking chrome stamped steel mount.  Roughing the hunk of 6061(yeah, I could have cust the stock down some, but I was lazy...  Here it is, all roughed out. }  Doing the semi-finishing with a 3/8 ball mill.  Finishing this setup with a 1/4" Ball mill. Roughing the 2nd side... Tool is getting a little dull. But the nice thing about Aluminum, it doesn't take much to cut it.  Semi-finish the 2nd side(this is where I screwed up. I had thought I put a 3/16" endmill in, when in fact I put a 1/4" endmill in... DOOOH!)  And the final product...  Can't even tell I screwed it up! My machining time would be a lot faster with ball lead screws, seems like half my time is spent (trying to be half way accurate) dealing with keeping lash out of my lead screw as I make cuts. A CNC rig or even a NC rig would be so nice... Sweet dreams are made of these Especially when your machine shop is 100% manual. But then again I do have a (small) machine shop of my own. The grass is always greener you know.  | |||

Right you are! When the time finally comes that I have access to the labs at school there will be a lot of extra time spent on the machines. There are always several projects floating around in the back of my mind I don't currently have the resources to complete, or I have my lathe or mill set up for a different job that I don't want to break down until I get another run of parts through (like now with necklace pieces I'm making for my Wife's school). Like I said, the grass is Always greener on the other side of the fence. | |||

Just got it in my hands last night and already have it nearly done being polished !! But Steve, you know me ... look how much extra time I threw in my header when I worked it over .... I still have 1000 and 1500 then the polishing pads I picked up a couple weeks ago to use on the mount ... won't be surprised if it looks like chrome when I'm done with it ... Thanks yet again !! (But did I ever tell ya I hate sanding .... too tedious) (what else can I convince ya to make ... hmmm - what else do I have to barter with other than my services ? ....) Brian | |||

Well .. I figure I have all winter to finish polishing the mount, and powder coating the catch can black ... only a couple screws to remove so why not go ahead and mount it - I was able to lose about a 1 1/2 feet of breather hose with it setup this way instead of mounting it up front. I figure it is such a damn fine mount it needs a name .. so I dub it 'The Mackay Mount' ... Thanks again Steve !  | |||

No Brian ... useless chips is what Steve makes out of triple trees .. at least mine .. Seriously - he was trying to help me out ... Somehow the screw hole on the back of the lower tree was either not covered when coated, or cross threaded at some point, but when I went to attach the brake line clamp it wouldn't thread in, so I went ahead and tried to tap it out ... well, I busted the tap in the tree ... So Steve was trying to 'beat it out' as conventional methods didn't work ... | |||

Hey .. I mentioned it briefly a couple posts ago ... Dora ... what happens in the garage - STAYS in the garage !!! Unless it's really cool .. then we can BRAG about it !!! (oops - I'm not supposed to use that word ... ) Also .. tread lightly Dora .. I still have a bike of yours in my midst !!! Seriously - it's all good .. Remember the golden rule.... Anything that causes you serious amounts of pain and mental anguish during the build/repair and earns a label that includes an explitive...transforms into "custom - one of a kind etc. when the job is finished! At least that's what I keep telling myself!  | |||

Highly amusing! Having a BROKEN TAP in the hole does not count on the Aw-$hit list. Diablo, counting turns enhances your math skills!  working with worn and shakey tools enhances your other skills. The ratty pink bridgeport that I learned on had about .100" slop in the screws and was loose as a goose, It kept me on my toes for shure. Nice bracket. | |||
