I was just talking to somebody today about my obsession with motorcycles. I call in an obession because it has taken over a lot of the social aspects of my life. That being said....I can honestly say that it's not just "motorcycles" in general. It all started when I got my first Buell. Most of the people I TRUELY call friends, I met on a Buell. These are people that I feel I can trust with my life as needed. And while most of them don't live close, we still have a friendship that is akin to true brotherhood. And all that from a Buell motorcycle. Sorry for the "heavy" thoughts on a cold Saturday afternoon. It just occurred to me today how influencial Buell motorcycles have been in my life!!! Any other stories like this? |

Gee,let me think--- traveled all over the US,went to race in Australia, have friends around the world, took up landspeed racing----all occurred because of buying a Buell Owned motorcycles since I was 14 and have had friends who I rode with, but the level of camaraderie, passion, and insanity--that came with the Buell. |

I don't have any other friends that would wait 6 hours with me in an emergency room, then invite me to their house for the night... |

I don't want to get all touchy-feelie... but I've never had a motorcycle that made me plan vacations and time off around events that centered on the brand of bike I was riding. I've never met Soichiro Honda, I don't know who started Suzuki, Yamaha, or Kawasaki, but I've smoked a cigar and shared a dirty joke with Erik Buell. I've never had a motorcycle that I wanted to keep longer than it took for the new and improved model to come out, until I bought my first Buell. As much as I hate to say it, I just love being able wear what I ride on my sleeve. |

Someone asked me about this the other day, they said it sounded like motorcycles was an obsession. I told them I did'nt think they were obsessions but were a a lifestyle. |

I attended a friends wedding last month with a bunch of other friends and the only reason I know these people are because of the Buell. I wouldn't go to a co-workers wedding. I proudly call myself a 3%'er. My kids tell their friends, "My Dad is 44 and joined a motorcycle gang". I like the feeling that comes with all that. My significant other and I talk about it a lot, how diverse and interesting Buellers are, even though half of them are young enough to be our children, they're not "kids". |

Actually, for me, getting back together with some of my old high school friends has been better than my friendships brought on by a Buell. Don't know why. Just going in that direction I guess. Well, I know why, but nothing I can do about it. Or care to for that matter. |

Dennis I guess you could say that Buell has done pretty much the identical thing to you as myself and Spidey for sure. We have had good part in some fantastic gatherings over the years and I truly treasure them, you guys and the ones I meet at the gatherings. I also get to see some just yearly but these bikes seem to bring us together again and again. |

I bought a Buell...it fell over and my footpeg broke...went to the dealership to get a new peg and met the love of my life, at the parts counter...he also happens to ride a Buell...it was fate... if I hadn't bought a Buell..we'd have never met, I have been truly blessed... and the bonus is that he was the only person in the store who owned a Buell, rather than a Harley. |

My Buell is the first bike I've owned that I said I would never sell. I will buy additional bikes (perhaps even Buells), but I will never part with my first. Also, what other bike manufacturer can boast that their customers will travel from NY to FL and make time to show a fellow Bueller how to change tires. I too am happiest when I'm in the saddle of my Lightning. I had a young man walking by my house yesterday while I was changing the oil and washing my Buell. He had never seen one before and said it was the most awesome looking bike he'd ever seen. You can't put a price on that kind of pride. |

Gee Lake the drury days of winter gettin to ya already? Just teasin. I agree with you, its great to see everyone when you ride into the Buell events, year to year, or whenever. And you think your obsessed? You should see my garage right now... On a sad note, with same ties, I attended a wake last nite for a friend I had met thru my Buell. He was 44, laid down after dinner and never woke up, massive heart attack. No history of problems, ate right, no smoke or drink. He bought a used Electra Glide a few years back, this year he bought a brand new Ultra, was the road captain of the local HOG chapter, and rode all the time.I will always remember him as a guy with a smile, never said no and always would help and stay until the event/job was done. Godspeed Byron. At the wake last nite 80% of the people there were riders! And all the HOG chapter and dealer were there. So Lake I can't agree more, WE all share a bond together, the love of the motorcycle ( we favor the Buells here), wind in our faces and the anticipation of riding that next curvy road. |

Lake / Dj, Ditto. We're three of the same almost exactly. I've been riding now for 10 years and have owned a Buell for almost one year now. It truly has changed my life, it's all I talk about, think about and all I want to do is ride it and ride with other Buell owners. I never felt like that about my other bike. While I've only met a relatively small percentage of Badwebbers, I consider the members of this board the best friends I've had in a long time and I hope to meet more of you over the coming years - thanks Erik, thanks Badweb. -Ras |

Oh, I forgot two other people: My wife K for supporting (putting up with) me and my new obsession; and one other person (I doubt he's on this board anymore) Mike, who sold me my second Buell. It was the best deal I've ever come across - a beautifully kept '03 XB9SLR, that I get to ride when I'm feeling particularly wiley and K let's me on it (it's her bike). |

What Rum_runner says and Court smiles with. We just finished a SoCal BRAG mtg with Al Lighton, Ebear, Pwnzor, Reindog, and a few other San Diego area Buellers whose names I ruefully forgot to acquire, but they know who they are. I just got to say that I'll go out of my way to meet up with fellow Buellers, JUST BECAUSE! You guys and gals are great people. I especially look forward to meeting left-coast Buellers at Laguna Seca. You too, Erik B.! Sparky |

Hi My name's MidnightRider and I'm a Buellaholic- oops, sorry, wrong meeting When I was getting ready to deploy to Iraq I would jokingly tell my friends I didn't know which I would miss more - my wife of 25 years (and my kids) or my Uly. I have about 2 more months here (hopefully) and I'm already fantasizing about the first time I see her again - how beautiful she is, how wonderful it will be just to be able to touch her again, and what will be the first thing we'll do together. And if she will be jealous when I want to spend time with the "other" love of my life. But all that will have to wait because she's in storage and my wife won't drive the truck with the trailer behind it. Thanks for listening - nobody here understands like you do mnr |

Always been into bikes but the past three years it has become an obsession. Currently in my house there is a 98 Buell S3, 84 Honda Elite 125 Scooter and the 80 Dnepr w/sidecar. At another garage across town there is a 06 Yamaha R1, 77 Yamaha RD400, 98 Buell S1 Lightning and a 91 Suzuki DR650. At my summer house there are a bunch of kids dirt bikes and can't remember whats out there. Obsession is not the word and I have a very understanding wife. The best trip ever was the 20th Anniversary and I hope some people are planning a 25th as I need to go. I have met a lot of bikers over the years and the best ones are the Buell Owners, most others are hard core wannabees. The more people I meet the more I like my bikes. Its cold here these days with temps hovering around 1 degree celsius but I'm still riding, its just its the 80 Dnepr w/sidecar. That thing don't go very fast and stops even worse but its just so much fun to ride around on. |

It is not an obsession with me, and I cannot stop anytime I want to, rather it is like the hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes. PS- Tell all of those who question you that it is a bike thang and they just wouldn't understand. jimidan |
