I am shopping for some new riding pants. I like the look of some of the re-enforced jeans out there. My question is this enough protection or should I also get the body armor for under the jeans. Icon makes some at a fairly reasonable price. I dont see a full piece suit in my budget so what does everyone use??? |

i have the Teknic Sport leather Pants now and like them a lot...comfortable, nice liner keeps you cool. 360 degree zipper makes for a track legal suit with an appropriate jacket
Teknic's site (fortunately I didn't pay the listed retail - I got mine from NewEnough) http://www.teknicgear.com/catalog.php?styleid=1&pid=63 |

No jean matrial will give you the protection of a good leather or textile riding pant. The riding jeans are def better than regular jeans though, it's all in what you will be willing to wear. I just bought a pair of Textile pants from newenough.com for $125. http://www.newenough.com/tour_master_caliber_pants_page.htm I do like their leather pants more, but hey, I saved $75 by going with the leather and it's better than wearing my jeans. |

Are you looking for something to protect you from the upcoming cold season? Don't underestimate the wind draft that a pair of pants with a lot of seams will have... I've been very happy with my JR Ballistic pants. I have an Alter Ego (JR too) Jacket, but it is rather drafty with all its zippers... Definitely a 2-3 season Jacket. Do not expect riding jeans to offer serious protection- They are still just jeans, reinforced or not. |

Dainese P103 pants are available from a national mailorder and retail chain (name witheld out of respect for sponsors) at a discounted price due to the fact that that model was replaced by the Delta pants. I own a pair, and I love them. I will be replacing them with a set of Alpinestars track pants and a S-MX jacket to zip to it. If you are a size 36 (56 euro size), I would be interested in selling my Dainese pants, I am replacing them because they are a little too big for me. They are in perfect condition. |

I have a set of Olympia Mustang pants which I think are great. I've also got a pair of Dainese Gore-Tex pants for touring but can be a bit heavy for daily use and definitely look like MC gear, and a pair of Firstgear mesh pants that are OK. For general around town stuff or more casual rides, the Olympia pants are comfortable, look great, and give me better protection than regular jeans. http://www.olympiamotosports.com/mensmustang/mustang.htm |

I've got a pair of Alpinestars jeans cut leather pants. They are quite heavy leather and have armored knees. They do a fair job of keeping the cold out and are therefore too hot for summer use. |

My problem is I live in Wichita. Our shops are terrible at best. I am doing all my research on the web. I would like to try some stuff on first. |

If you really want serious protection leather is the first choice. The textile/cordura gear, with jeans of any type as a last choice. try these online shops for closeout prices on decent gear. (in no particular order) www.newenough.com www.motorcyclecloseouts.com www.motorcycleleatherexchange.com |

I can't say enough about New Enough. I've bought 2 pairs of leather pants there. I've got some reinforced riding jeans and that's exactly what they are...Jeans. They help a little in low speed easy cruising wipe outs, but I wouldn't count on them if I was going to do some twisties or heavy traffic. And you'll still get road rash. |
