Took this from the Concours.org forum. A friend of a regular poster on the forum has made a movie documenting his journey. Looks kind of cool. Check out the movie trailer. He probably would have been better off on a Uly. And a lot of you have the nerve to bitch about how underpowered the Buells are. For shame. Hi guyz, This is about my friend Gaurav Jani, a die-hard motorcyclist from India. He has made a documentary on a solo motrocycle trip to the top of the world. Believe me, he was a ONE-man unit to make the movie. It is coming to NY (noon, 4th nov, saturday) so guyz nearby can watch it. Other ppl, you would love the trailer. For 2 nice wallpapers from his ride: http://amanthan.blogspot.com/2006/03/riding-solo-to-top-of-world.html Here is the mail from him: --------------------------------------------- Hi there, A motorcycle travelogue by Dirtrack Productions in association with Motorcycle Travel Club India will be premiering in Film festivals in New York, USA. "Riding Solo To The Top Of The World " is a motorcycle travelogue to Changthang Plateau, one of the remotest places in the world situated at the India China Border. The uniqueness, it's a one man unit film without the support of a back up vehicle or a film crew. The film has received two awards at Mumbai International Film Festival. Golden Conch for Best Documentary and also the Critics Award. It has also adjudged Best Documentary Biography Section at SIGNS Film Festival in Kerala. The film also opened the "Spotlight on India" film series at Calgary Film festival in Canada. http://www.calgaryfilm.com/schedule.php?fd=373 The film will be shown at Indo American Arts Council Film Festival on November 4th, Saturday. http://www.iaac.us/sixth_film_festival2006/screening_schedule.htm 8 minute trailer of the film is uploaded online at http://www.60kph.com/photos/video/riding_solo.html It would be great if you could catch the film. Kindly pass the mail to bikers you know in USA who you think would like to watch the film. Thanks and Regards, Gaurav A Jani +91 9833013039 Mumbai INDIA |

Now that he has got the POS bike to the top of the world, is he going to do the decent thing and throw it off the top? |

Having visited close to this part of the world I can say how envious I am. Will anyone trade me a Bullet for a Buell? Rocket |

Absolutely incredible, take few minutes to see the trailer. This is not about his choice of motorcycles, it is about the journey. http://www.60kph.com/photos/video/riding_solo.html Incredibly well photographed for the conditions, and an incredibly interesting glimpse into one of the most seldom seen regions of the world. On the specifics of the motorcycle, I find the comment about "the POS bike" to be unkind. Can you imagine the joys of kickstarting a 350cc single in subfreezing weather at 16,000 feet. That it made the journey takes the Bullet well out of the POS category. Jack |

These guys from India rock. Over on the advrider board there's a bunch of regular guys who do these 2 weeks tours of incredible terrain... the Hindu Kush, Kashmir, 14,000 foot high passes etc... on sub-200cc bikes mind boggling adventure on minimal budgets, these guys are my moto-touring heros. Here's just one example... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120851 |

Will the movie ever be available for viewing by the less sophisticated that aren't able to attend their local film festivals? |

My sources tell me that the filmmaker should be setting up a website to sell the DVD in about 3 weeks. I'll keep you posted. |

"It's cold there...verry cold..." Opening line of the trailer. Anyone who isn't impressed with this doesn't have an adventurous bone in his body and should stay home and continue his "poker runs". I don't care if he was on a Vespa or a Honda 50, but the Enfield at least gives it some historical heritage. |

If you watch the trailer for the movie, it says he was on a 350cc bike. That Bullet 350cc model is the mainstay for the motorcycle market in India and Pakistan. Only the rich kids and real studs get the 500's. http://www.indiabikes.com/ If your Enfield's engine is getting a little tired and you're not in a hurry, you might want to consider a diesel conversion for it: http://www.indiabikes.com/Current%20Stock%20Bikes/DieselConversionbody.html Imagine it, a Lombardini 15 LD400 (that's the *big* engine, the *10* HP model) diesel powered motorcycle running on veggie oil. If you watch the trailer for the movie, it says he was on a 350cc bike. I did catch that, I was referring to the $4700 price tag on the 500 on the Royal Enfield site. |

http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/mdl_military.html#, I really LIKE the military model..., but I think with import they have missed their price point by about 1000 bucks, I would pay 4K for one but not 5K. (Message edited by CURTYD on October 01, 2006) |

I was torn between the military model and the scrambler. I decided not to buy either one. Curt, If you ever see anyone that owns one, stay in touch with them. I've heard that the honeymoon ends pretty quick on the kick start models. The North American record for "sold cheap because it's hard to start" was probably the BSA Victor. Jack |
