Am I making any sense or am I talking out of my ass? :c) Perfect sense. You'd have to walk a mile in my shoes to get my point though I guess. I'm not scared of cops, I feel no safer seeing one than not seeing one. I'm happy to say they've always been there when needed. the only reasonable presumption I can come up with is that if you're nervous, you did something wrong. The presumption is the problem. Presume, assume, it's all the same. |

I guess it's just two different parts of the world, two different cultures. I truly believe that you should feel safer when you see a cop. If you don't, then something is really lacking in your city's "community policing" plans. I walk into a coffee shop every morning to check on the gals there, not to harass them, but give them peace of mind. That's the problem with law enforcement today, too much "Kommando Kop" "You were going 52 in a 50" BS. Needs to be more officers trying to actually build ties and relationships with their community. |

I would've sold him one! That, as one would say, is an accurate statement. |

Damn! Obsess much? He just wanted to know about the bike. I'm sure if a call came in he would cut the conversation short and do his job. |

If you don't, then something is really lacking in your city's "community policing" plans. You could say that. I have little faith in the Atlanta PD, and a few of the other Metro Area PDs as well. Big City vs Small Town would be my guess. Back home (Small Town) I have a very different attitude towards the police. But like I've said in the past, and it still holds true today. I respect law enforcement, it's a hell of a career choice, and it takes a special type of person to choose to put one's safety at risk for their fellow man. |

Well, being cool about it might just save you from getting a ticket if the guy ever sees you going a little outside of the law, somewhere down the road... Glad it was nothing bad... |

The thing about only being nervous around cops if you've done something wrong presumes that cops only pull you over and subsequently ticket you if you've done something wrong. Not always a correct presumption. |

spreadem - The difference between a cop flagging you over and a citizen doing the same is that you are not obligated legally to obey the "request" made by the citizen. If he was in his street clothes and his own car would he have attempted to flag a rider down beside the road, in the same manner, to talk about his bike? I really doubt it. The abuse is in LEO's use of the authority given to him by the vehicle and his badge. Most people are indeed condition into a fear response when flagged/pulled over by a LEO whether they are guilty or not. This is normal. Most of us are guilty of at least speeding (even 1mph over is still a technically stoppable offense) so it isn't unreasonable to be afraid of being caught unaware. |

I agree with all of those who say that was a chicken move on the part of the officer. Not exactly the best way to connect with those in your community. Im pissed from reading this, not the first time Ill mention how "fond" I am of LEO's. |

The Little Kid got pulled over for the FOURTH time tonight, on his way home from his soccer game! He was driving behind me in the Jeep, he was driving the Barbie Car, a 93 GEO Metro convertible in hot pink. The sherrif deputy said he was going 72 mph! He was right behind me! The damn thing is only running on 2 of its 3 cylinders! 72 mph is only obtainable if it was being pushed down hill by a truck! Teen age profiling at its best! He got pulled over twice on his Blast, once for driving too slow(because he didn't want to get pulled over) and another time because the sherrif deputy wanted to see if his bike was stolden. The first time he got pulled over in the Barbie car was when we first bought it, it was Saturday and we didn't have a plate for it yet. |

Swampy, I don't have much knowledge in the law, but it is starting to sound like you may have a harassment case there. The kid was pulled over three times and not ticketed/charged with anything, nor did they have a reason to pull him over. I know teens can be difficult to deal with when it comes to LEOs, but that sounds pretty rediculous. |
