I am looking for any recommendations on places to stay in the Deals Gap area. In looking at the Tail of the Dragon web site I couldn't help but notice the "Two Wheel Inn" with motorcycle garages for each room. I am heading up that way for a week of riding in about two weeks and would love some feedback on where and where not to stay. Thanks. |

Although a good place to stop and rest, grab a quick bite/souvenir, or fuel-up, I would not stay at the Deals Gap motel/campground unless you like crowds packed in so tight you can't get through the parking lot. I was there a week ago and I couldn't believe the raw number of people/bikes jamming up the place on the weekend. It was a total ZOO! Have fun, and be safe! Tank |

Fontana village seems to always have rooms and they have a discount program of some sort for motorcycle riders - they also run the campground near the dam - give 'em a call DAve |

I stayed in Townsend TN, when I went in May. Nice and quiet and very beautiful. Plus as a bonus theres a great BBQ place down the road that has the best iced tea I've ever tasted. |

Also consider staying at the base of the Cherohola Expressway (Tellico plains?). The Cherohola is a nicer ride then the gap, and makes a nice big loop. And you have gas, more food choices, and a bit more "stuff" there for your base camp. |

Lake_bueller, I am shooting for that same week. My plan is to head to Deals Gap from Orlando on Sunday morning, 10/8. I would spend a day or two there and then head to my brother-in-law's house in Warrenton, VA via the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'll then head to Hilton Head, SC and ride a couple of days while staying at my brother's place. |

I think it would be hard to beat the Iron Horse lodge. The bunk house was $18 a night. That included towels for the shower. Free internet access too. Whats up xb9ser. |

yep, just stayed at the iron horse in august. good place. even the ride to the dragon from there is fun! we said we were going to take it easy on the way back there after our last run down the dragon. made it through about the first curve or two and hit it even harder. we both kind of figured it was our last hurah might as well go out with a bang! |

i agree with every body that the iron horse is hard to beat. i got a room there for $55 a night and it was supper clean. if you have a desent size group going with you look into the tree tops. i just stayed there. super nice place it will sleep quit a few people. plus it has a nice garage with a hot tub and pool table. hey Trac when we all gonna go back down? |

I went to the gap earlier this year and we stayed at the Tapoco Lodge. This place is maybe 2 miles from the base of the gap and the it is definately a 4 star location with private cottages or lodge rooms. It was a excellent exeprience and I can't say enough for the staff and location! PLUS the food was the best of anything we found and we road the entire area from Knoxville to the Blue Ride parkway east of the Smokeys. I just couldn't say enough about this lodge to do it justice. TAPOCO LODGE ~ On the banks of the Cheoah River near Cheoah Dam (seen in film "The Fugitive") ~ Open Mar-Nov ~ On-site restaurant, open for 3 meals/day ~ Recreation room, tennis courts, shuffleboard court, children playground, swimming pool ~ sorry, no pets allowed Tel: 800/822-5083, 828/498-2435 www.tapocolodge.com E-mail: codydk@msn.com |

I stayed at the Two Wheel Inn last month. The rooms were nice and having a garage to keep your bike in was cool. It is right on 129 before Robbinsville so you have about a half hour ride to get to the dragon from there. They are still finishing up the construction so you have to ride on a dirt and gravel covered driveway to get to the rooms. They told me when it is all completed the driveway and parking areas will all be paved. Nice people though and I have no real complaints. |

Just booked a room at the Two-Wheel Inn in Robbinsville for 10/11 and 10/12. Will be riding in from Warrenton, VA on the 11th on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Any suggestions on what I should definitely be riding while I'm at Deals and Tail of the Dragon. I'm leaving Orlando on Sunday, 10/8 for Warrenton and will be riding up that way for a couple of days if anyone has any recommendations there too. It's over a week away and I am as excited as I used to get on Christmas eve about it. |

If anyone will be in the northern Virginia area or Deals Gap area that week, PM me. Maybe we could hook up. I'll be traveling alone, so any company would be great. |

Go to see Deals Gap. Leave loving the Cherohala! There are an abundance of roads in the area. Hwy 28 scored lots of points with our group as well. If I come across a packet we got last year I'll scan them in and send them. Deals, Cherohala, and 28 should cover your stay, though. |

Trac, i would love to do a track day. but not on my bike... i have way to much pretty stuff on it for that. don't get me wrong i ride the hell out of it now, but if i get on a track with it i know i will push it until something happens. i will have to get a bike just for the track. but that won't be happening any time soon... Jim, yes lowering it would be a good start...... are you trying to say i'm short.... |

Dude let me go" makes me laugh my a$$ off every time i think of it |

Gary, you showed up at the dragon with chicken strips and left with out chicken strips. If you could ride that well at the dragon, you won't have any problems at the track! I don't blame you for not wanting to ride your Buell at the track. It sure is pretty! |

NY crew..........You have ridden with a few of em.. Aint no rumble without me! Have to ride Buell at track thats where you get to see what it's made for. Unless of course we block off the Dragon with some cones and make some nice runs untill the cops get there....HMMM |
