now that's just silly!

"I believe that I'm an individual, exactly like the other 57 folks in this commercial"

actually, for trying to get new customers, it's likely dead nuts accurate

me, er, um, yeah

;-}

Yeah, it going to sell some bikes to CPA's so they can be tuff/hardcore and part of the harley club.

What they should be really saying:

"CPA's are not just bean counters. I live in a loft apartment downtown and I buy my jeans at the GAP. Look at me I'm on a Harley!"

We believe in illegal helmets !

"We believe in sticking it to the man"

Uhhhh Isn't Harley or any other large motorcycle manufacturer for that matter owned by "The Man"?

I don't know if that was a commercial or invite to join a badass (yet politically correct) Biker Gang !

We are the Borg. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be adapted to our own. Surrender your vessel. Resistance is futile.

I believe that if there had been a turn greater than 30 degrees in that commercial there would have been one heck of a pile-up...

Thank you so much for that comment...I nearly spit my drink all over my keyboard.

That video does have a cult undertone to it.

ok, I got it to work.
I don't think it is that bad of an ad.

I thought it was good that they showed bikes that have been customized and not just showroom stock.
They show women riding, that is good for all of us.
They show people of all colors riding, that is good for all of us.

You have to remember, that commercial isn't aimed at prospective or current sportbike riders, it is aimed at HD/Cruiser prospects.
In that area, it hits it out of the park, in my opinion.

Yep, I like it, just watched it again.

Buell could do a commercial like that but of course it would need to be completely different, as Buell is after a different market.

its precisely the image that all bankers/lawyers/doctors aspire to.....

gotta hand it to H-D for appealing to the "inner rebel" of white collar folks.

they do that well.

I dig it.
I loved the "We believe in gas tanks designed in 1936" line. The 'sticking it to the man" thing could have been left out.

I must admit it would appeal to me if I was going to go with the whole HD lifestyle thing.

When's the cut-off for the "real" HD folks vs the purchased HD lifestyle people?
Like Coke vs Coke Classic.

Is a tattoo required?

I just wanna know in case I decide to buy one, next to being gay (no offense to those of you to whom that applies) being a poser's freakin' "gayer".

I dug it. But...

The "sticking it to the man" comment was neither necessary or appropriate. HD as a corporation is "the man". At this point in time, it just doesn't fit anymore.

And the non-comformist undertone of the video is lost, almost to the point of satire, in that sea of bikers. That could have been avoided and still shown a brotherhood aspect if they never had more than 2 or 3 bikes together at the same time. Joining, then leaving the main rider.

Harley nailed that ad. Perfect marketing. "We" believe in all that stuff, just so long as "We" don't get dirty and are at work on time on Monday.

The Visuals were fine, It was that non stop "Hey Man" narrative that killed me. Ad would have same impact with maybe 60% less jabbering. Rule #1 of Advertising: If I dont got the gist of it in 10-15 seconds I'm a bailing. On the plus side It was nice to see a bike commercial of any kind with that kind of production polish. The irony of it is the "anti-mainstream motorcycle crowd" ad will probably make motorcycles more appealing to the mainstream?!?

Could have said "sticking it to the woman"

Would that have made ya feel better?

It is a very "broad" comment and can be taken many ways.

if you view it in light of the thread in which RegK was asking "what makes a good ad?"

this one's aces -- drawing new customers into the fold is both more difficult and more important than preaching to the converted --

that most Buell-riders find it off-target is no more surprising than finding most cruiser riders don't get Buell ads, I'm thinkin

That is exactly what they want. We should want it too.
The more riders there are, the bigger group we represent, the more "our" voice will be heard.

Daves understands. More riders=Better.

It doesn't matter how you see yourself as a rider, it just matters whether you are one or not.

What you ride is immaterial. The fact that you ride is what's important.

Good question. I guess the ad man went out "On any Sunday" and found a thousand riders who would that ad. I would have.

Next time I'm in R.I. I will send you a PM and go to Tweet's for steamer's and beers.

I thougt it was cool only the narration sounded a little demonic /cyborgish in a bad way, a real voice would be better. I think the clik/gang part of hd bikers is cool, as you get older its harder to find groups of free spirits to party or hang with. The best part was that young girl hangin off the ape hangers damn she was friggin sexy, hopefully someday I become "the man" and Ill be able to afford a $20,000 bike and ride with her. Yeah that whole "the man" thing was really stupid, buying the most trendy popular toy is far from stickin it to anyone. And who is "the man"? I thought it was the people at the top or upper class like many HD owners
