I was changing the fluids today and the top screw on the clutch insp cover stripped. The screw is fine but the first 2/3 of the threads are gone, it's strange but it's a real smooth bore. I was using a torque wrench and it stripped going to 100 inch pounds... I got a longer screw to hold (at a lot lighter torque)but would this be covered under warranty, extended warranty that is ??? What do yall think???

I think not.Can you produce up to date calibration receipts for your torque wrench?
Maybe then.YOU stripped the hole out,it wasn't defective.Don't get me wrong,i'd love to see a fellow Bueller benefit like that but,it's unlikely. Helicoil the stripped hole in the cover or...pay the $225. for a new cover.Sorry........: (

unless the dealer did it you are boned.

get a thread repair kit such as a heli-coil...

a 1/4-20 kit is 15 to 17 bucks and refill coil inserts are cheap.

Thanks guys, that's what I was afraid of... Duc, I do take offense to one thing, yes the hole and or threads WERE defective or it wouldn't have stripped in the middle of the recommended torque range. This is a small 1/4 inch torque wrench that I bought from a friend at work. We work at a large aircraft firm and the calibration lab checked it before I bought it and it was good... I guess I'll just put a heli coil in it... It is just the smoothest 1/4 hole you've ever seen... I mean 63 finish or better, looks like it was an insert or something in there before instead of being threaded...
Thanks again...

Spidy, as usual, speaks the truth! I had stripped one of the clutch cover bolts on my '95 S2 and instead of screwing around with the dealer I just installed a heli-coil. Guess what? After over 100,000 miles more, the heli-coil is still working as good as new.

sometimes,
if the thread is gonna require heavy use, i just install heli coils, you can put more tourqe on them and like 1313 said, they last longer...

When i replaced rotors/pulley last year i automatically helicoiled everything on my PM wheels. done others/w great success.

When i said "you" i meant from the dealers perspective. Are you a "factory" certified technician?

Duc, you just sounded a bit heavy handed, cool... Hey, I got some heli coils today but they're about 3/8" long. Do yall use this length or is there somewhere you can get longer ones...
Everything we had a work was 1/4-28, durn it...

your thread length needs to be 1.5 times as long as the diameter
.25 X 1.5=.375
3/8=.333

so you are within range for what you are using it for
