My wife was recently pulled over and said she was doing 81 in a 70. I know for a fact my truck won't go 80 because of the big tires I have on back. Should I fight it or just pay the fine? Any suggestions?

Hello,i've seen that trick nearby.A lot of people got ticketed. However,as a frequent pedestrian i'm subjected to drivers who'll run me down in a crosswalk.Ever see those signs "ped X-ing"?? It's THE LAW.Too bad in todays society/w road rage etc. Those crosswalks, surrounded by SOLID white lines are MY domain and you'll stop for me in that area or risk a ticket. It is illegal to run me down and i don't J-walk. Sorry,BTW,you got a ticket.Pay it and remember the repercussions

First one I found...but read (b)....I rest my case

The right of way at crosswalks, extracted from the Illinois Vehicle Code, Rules of the Road, 625 ILCS 5/11-1002
Sec. 11-1002.
Pedestrians' right-of-way at crosswalks.
(a) When traffic control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger.
(b) No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a moving vehicle which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(c) Paragraph (a) shall not apply under the condition stated in Section 11-1003 (b).
(d) Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass such stopped vehicle.
(e) Whenever stop signs or flashing red signals are in place at an intersection or at a plainly marked crosswalk between intersections, drivers shall yield right-of-way to pedestrians as set forth in Section 11-904 of this Chapter.

And this is New York Version....

http://www.dot.state.ny.us/pubtrans/share.html#1151

Section 1151. Pedestrians' right of way in crosswalks.
(a) When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk on the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, except that any pedestrian crossing a roadway at a point where a pedestrian tunnel or overpass has been provided shall yield the right of way to all vehicles.
(b) No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impractical for the driver to yield.
(c) Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass such stopped vehicle.

That about sums it up Zxzer04.

Ducxl,

I have always respected pedestrian and always pay attention when I am driving. I know there are people out there who do not deserve a drivers license and I understand your mentality. But do you think it was right for the Cops to do this? There were no recent events that I have found to provoke this. The year before they gave everyone a parking ticket that went to the Fireworks show. There was no way to fight that because they had signs that said no parking. But there were hundreds of tickets that they wrote that night.

You're right...In nearby Somerset Mass. they had a guy who'd just put his foot into the crosswalk and the people passing got tickets. There doesn't seem to be another way to demonstrate effectively, the dangers put on pedestrians by drivers with no sense of courtesy.Too bad some decent drivers got pooled with some indecent ones....Sorry 'bout that......

The problem is the "pussification of a nation". Too many people trying to make life completely safe. I have spent my entire life living in Union County N.J. Everyone in this state knows that you just don't walk out in front of cars. Cars are bigger than people, and therefore by playground politics maintain the right of way on the low side of all curbs. It has always been that way and worked perfectly. Between the crooked ass cops and legislators pretty soon everyone will be running from Dirty Jersey.
Unrelated but fits under the "pussification" topic. Have you ever seen the "drive 25 keep kids alive" signs that people buy and stick out on their front lawns? More than once I had the pleasure of driving/riding behind one of these assholes. At the first available red light I point out to them that they have not been "Driving 25". They don't like it much but I love doing it. Try it one day, You'll like it too. No-one drives 25, ever.

Knotrider,

I moved your post about law enforcement personnel.

As the father, and son, of a cop I find you offensive.
