Due to my current finance situation, I am about to sell my 03 Mach 1. This is my only car (other then a 71 Cutlass that I am restoring), and this should make this winter pretty interesting. The elimination of my car payments, and the large cost of gas should put me in quite a better spot. Just one car payment would pay for suitable winter gear. I am looking forward to it.

You are a brave soul. You live in Massachusetts, right? Do you get any freezing rain there? Make sure you have a good rain suit and some heated clothing.

Looking forward to riding in sub freezing temps at 8 in the morning? Nah, I'll pass. As far as not having 4 wheels. Been there, done that. But, this was in central Florida. 2 years worth of motorcycle only living, everyone should try it once in their lives. It was fun and interesting, you figure out some creative ways to get stuff from point A to B. I really enjoyed those two years of my life! No freezing temps, but lots of rain riding in the summer time. Best of luck and ride safe!

I have a buddy, who, when he got out of the army didn't know how to drive a car.
I taught him how to ride a motorcycle.
He had a bike that he rode year-round to get to work.
We live in Pittsburgh, the winters are cold and snowy.
He never missed a days work because of the weather.

hey eboos, sell the mach 1, put what would be the "payment" in a envelope. and in about 3 or 4 months go buy an old toyota or nissan truck.. you can get a great condition, early nineties, toyota for about 1,500 to 2,000..and it will run forever..and insurance is cheap.
so you'll have to keep tha same financial budget for a few more months, but atleast you wont ride in the snow All winter..
any way ya go,,good luck

increase you bodly harm and health insurance.

Riding in the rain, sleet, snow, or ice greatly increases your chance of injury.

BTW you can own a car for less than 3k. Just not a facny v8 sports car

I also live in Mass, buy a cheap 500.$ car! The winters are too harsh and unsafe for just a bike. BE careful in the cold, it is tough riding!

A new opportunity just presented itself. I may not have to sell the car after all. We would have kept the wife's car.

A cheap used sidecar could probably be had for mere pittance. But then, you'd have to unlearn everything you know about riding motorcycles and learn how to ride an asymetrical, 3-axle, right-turn-suicidal, suspension-challenging, wind-dragging, gas-hogging, dog-loving chick magnet. Are you in?

I used to ride my KLR250 in the winter.
Not a pleasant thing.

Do not attempt without knobbies!

I lived in MA and tried a winter of riding the bike to work.

Best of luck to you.

Up your health and death benefit insurances.

I remember being young and poor, rode till the seat froze. Don't miss that part of being young!
