Alas the sport is still boring I goota agree, after watching Val and Lois bumping and swaping paint several time during the last 4 laps on Sunday the the F1 boy are just a parade of expensive technology. I do fine it interesting that Montoya is taking a huge pay cut to bang fenders in NASCAR saying he is bored by F1. Rumor has it that a couple other guys are trying to learn how to talk circle track talk. You know the cars don't understeer/oversteer they are tight or loose. You dont adjust the spring rates you jack in some load. I don't care for NASCAR but it will be fun to see how Juan does on the high banks with guys passing on both sides and somebody else pushing him form behind. Not quite the way things happen at Monaco. After all all these guys are RACERS and it must be frustrating to find passing is almost as impossible as getting a competitive ride. |

I always enjoyed watching Mansell and the FW14B is my favorite car of all time by a long shot (well, OK, the Eagle Weslake is a close second with the GT40 a close third... but it's a long ways to fourth ). I liked to watch Berger and Hakkinen as well. Can't say as I really like Kimi much. Aside from Moto GP some of the best racing I've watched has been... well... WSBK but I'll leave the bikes out of it . Probably the Aussie V8's. Like FIA GT but with more paint swapping. Brilliant stuff coming down out of the mountain onto the Conrod straight . It truly pisses me off that we can't get BTCC, DTM, GT, Aussie V8 etc here in the US. Totally pissed about that. They really should just make a NASCAR channel and a racing channel... Anyone know if there's a place to get season review DVD sets of GT racing? /EDIT - The Daytona Prototypes aint half bad, but I really miss the days of Group C... The closed cockpit cars they run these days at Le Mans just don't seem to have the same "something" that the Sauber C9 and the Toyota GT1 and the Silk Cut Jaguar had... They really need to race F1 and F2 on the same grid . You know... The american GT series isn't bad either but the cars have some sort of "duct taped together" NASCAR feel to them... I wish they'd move the NASTRUCKS back to a roadrace series... those were fun to watch. And FIX TURN TWO at Sears point... What the heck were they thinking? Bring F1 back to the GP track (preferably w/o the chicane) at Watkens Glenn too damnit. Sheesh... racing these days... It's totally lost it's greatness until you get rid of two wheels... That said... I still like to watch Monaco. Talk about a parade . (Message edited by M1Combat on September 13, 2006) \EDIT AGAIN - Oh... and GO TOYOTA IN F1!!! GO TRULLI!!!! "Mansell and Piquet were team mates in the blue and yellow Williams. Remember them?" Yeah... But they kinda torqued my chain when they switched to the bitburger sponsorship (Or was that Benneton?). The car looked soo much cooler in the Canon livery. Best looking F1 cars ever IMO were the Marlboro sponsored McLaren Fords or the '04 and '05 Renaults. That said... I think most of the cars from the pre-sponsorship era look better but I really like wings . |

First off Combat, it has been said many times before, not least of all by me, check out the Isle of Man's Duke Video You need a telephone and a credit card, and perhaps in your case you racing psycho, very deep pockets. After I wrote that post the other day about my watching Mansell win at Silverstone in the turbo Renault, I got to thinking, was he in the blue and yellow Cannon car, or were he and Piquet in the yellow Camel car, and I honestly can't remember. I do remember though, it was the last season they ran turbos in F1. BTCC during the 1990's was the best. It was much more of a contact sport than it is now, and the cars were not so much of the smaller less powerful front wheel drive variety. I've seen Group C too. I remember being at Donnington way back in the 80's if memory serves, when the rotary engined Mazda was around. That noise of that thing screaming on track was like nothing else. I was present in the pits of Ray Belm, the (wealthy) gentleman sportscar racer who campaigned the McLaren F1 road car racer in the World Sportscar Series. I came very close to snatching a ride in the car, except Belm was such an arrogant bastard he and I didn't get along. It was his car, and his drive that day, and he flat refused to give me a ride despite everyone else in the pits wanting him to. He used the excuse it was getting to dark, as it was late in the day when they got finished. Then he proceeded to give the Truckies a ride. Great car though. As for the best cars in F1, that is deserving of another thread all of its own. We could do the same with race bikes too. So many cars to choose from. Maserati 250F from the early days. Mansell's early 90's (I forget the year) Ferrari was stunning. I've touched it too. It's in Prince Rainier's Museum of Antique Automobiles in Monaco. Bigger cars. Bigger tyres. There was just something stunning about the design of the nose cone on that Ferrari, before the era they started to lift the nose off the floor. Monaco during GP week is awesome. I've been to Monaco several times. Twice for the GP weekend. I even went there on the Buell once! Rocket |

I have the '04 IOM Duke Video... I really need to just pony up the dough for the '05 and '06 DVD too... Maybe I'll do that this week. I love watching those races. I'd like to get some Irish roadracing video from them as well. A friend of mine has the entire 66-70 something F1 seasons... Most of it in B&W. The Mazda 787B... SWEET car . |

Rocco, You should know better than to argue racing with a guy that is almost as fast as Troy Bayliss on a public road! Sorry Rocket, I just couldn't stop my fingers from typing that. I guess I am still an ignorant petrol head. |

Nah... He's got the right... He's faster than Troy "Freaking" Frankfurter . In case you were confused though... Rocket was the one claiming that Bayliss couldn't have passed him on at least one occasion . |

this thread is making me chuckle -- Rockets (bode a use) -- you guys are sounding decidely middle-aged grumpy -- "racing hasn't bee the same since," "I remember, back when Ferrari was a force" . . . . .. . first sign of impending doom, fellers besides, the last time F1 was worth watching was when Jim Clark drove a green car and Dan Gurney drove a blue and white one (which, of course, means I am PAST middle aged, yes?) |
