What a beautiful morning on Ortega Highway! First ride in the twisties with my newly rebuilt forks (thanks again Al and Joanne) and I swear somebody switched my bike with a brand new one! Best ride I've had in a year, hardly any traffic, no LEO's and no water or rocks in the road. Perfect run all around, I can't believe the amount of slop I had been putting up with for so long! If your front end is wishy-washy at all, do yourself a favor and go through your forks, it's a rebirth akin to that of the mighty Phoenix of lore. Man, I'm so jazzed right now I might just go back out. |

Matt- I'm thinking of doing the Pro Series suspension upgrade this winter, but I'm a little cautious about messing with the forks, not to mention switching the rear-shock spring. The "tool" Al used, is it only for the fork springs, or will it work for rear-shock as well? I'm also hesitant because I want to get my "money's worth" out of the stock setup... so I might just order everything now... and wait until I hit 10k. Additionally, the problem I was having isolating the problem with my friends Buell ended up being something so simple I am almost ashamed to say I didn't check it first. Last night I didn't even try hooking it up to the laptop, I just started over again where I left off. We took of his airbox to swap out servo motors to see if that was the problem (wasn't), then removed chin fairing to inspect the cable connection to the Spec Ops pipe (not it), so we agreed to worry about it when the weather got bad, since the weather was so nice yesterday... but when he was reinstalling the seat the fuse box caught my eye, so I pulled every single fuse to find that one was blown... replaced it, and Presto (not the spag sauce) problem solved. Negative Side - while inspecting cable connection to Spec Ops I observed a loose oil line fitting securing the oil line into IIRC the engine casing. So another project for a rainy day- tighten the line, since I didn't have a line wrench, and it wasn't LEAKING... it appeared to just be "sweating oil", so I advised him to be cautious and we'd take care of it later. |

I try to hit Ortega about twice a month, usually on weekdays around lunch to avoid the traffic and LEOs. I was going to go yesterday, but ran out of time, but I did go up on Friday and worked on my chicken strips. I love Ortega when the a-holes aren't being squidly. I am not a ball-out knee dragger, but I love riding the Pace in third. Its fun to do the whole road and back without touching the brakes at all. Just wish I was a better rider. My favorite strech is the the decreasing radius turns near the county line, woo-hoo! BTW, when I was up there Friday on my "Hero", someone on a red XB12R w/ amber rims gave me an enthusiastic wave. One of the first Buellers I have seen on the road since I got my City. I'd love to ride with you guys sometime and grab a bite at Hell's. --Sean |
