Ok, I should have my head examined, but I'm feeling very generous this morning so here goes: I have created an FTP server just for BadWeB members. There will be only two rules, and they are: you must follow ALL of BadWeB's rules, and I reserve the right to delete anything I find inappropriate. It's my server, I own it, and my bills are already paid for the next 52 months so it's not coming down any time soon. I will run it on the HONOR system, which means everyone has full upload and download priveleges, including the ability to delete files in the directory. Please do not tamper with other people's files, you would not want them to tamper with yours, golden rule applies. This is on a TRIAL basis for the next 30 days. If it doesn't get abused then we'll keep it going. If people use it for a filedump then I'll shut it down and go back to hosting on a request basis. I WANT TO MAKE CLEAR THAT EVERYONE MAY USE THE SERVICE EVEN IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME PERSONALLY, I CAN BE CIVIL IF YOU CAN. I WILL NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANY BADWEBBER. Here are the settings, you can use an FTP client or DOS commands, it's up to you: hostname: ftp.zero3nine.com username: badweb@zero3nine.com password: badweb Files will be located at (http://zero3nine.com/badweb/yourfile.xxx) ANYONE WHO ALTERS OR DELETES THE INDEX.HTML FILE WILL BE BANNED FROM THIS SERVICE. All submissions will be hosted in their native format, full size. No advertisements or popups, just pure media. If you would like to request any special formatting like THIS then PM me and we'll discuss the layout. All pages formatted by me will bear an American Sport Bike banner just like the one you've seen here on BadWeB. Also, at your request I can include a BadWeB banner of the same size to serve as a link for viewers to return to the main login screen here. ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE BADWEB OR BUELL RELATED. THIS IS NOT A FILE DUMP. ALL FILES MUST BE POSTED AT LEAST ONCE IN A THREAD HERE ON BADWEB. THERE WILL BE NO OTHER ADVERTISING POSTED ANYWHERE ON MY WEBSITE OR ANY SUBDIRECTORY OR HTML FILE. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DELETE ANY FILE DEEMED OFFENSIVE BY BADWEB'S CUSTODIANS OR BLAKE OR ERIK BUELL. OBJECTIONS TO MATERIAL BY OTHER BADWEB MEMBERS WILL BE TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT. I ALSO RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CONDENSE THE PHYSICAL SIZE OF VIDEO FILES WITHOUT ALTERING THE ASPECT RATIO OR SCREEN SIZE. IF YOU HAVE A HUGE VIDEO FILE AND WANT ME TO REDUCE IT BEFORE YOU POST THE LINK, UPLOAD IT THEN PM ME AND I'LL HANDLE IT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. Also, try to remember that for others to view your files, they must download them, so making them smaller (less mb or kb, not viewing size) is a good thing. Let's see how well this works out, I'm hoping it's a success and we can all stop being subjected to arbitrary size and bandwidth limits at some of those "other" hosting sites. Remember, too, that your IP and other information about you is being logged as soon as you access the directory. Tomfoolery will not be tolerated! Happy uploading! BTW I can probably make the video a lot smaller without sacrificing quality. 70MB is nothing to me, but others with less bandwidth will find it cumbersome to download. Send it, I'll check it out. Yeah it's mom's b-day this weekend, so give me a day or two and I'll setup an index page, maybe with thumbnails or something. It will evolve as more files roll in. I don't know if you all saw Nick Warne's videos, they stream pretty well. Wheelie.mpg uses a codec I don't have but once I get it, I'll shrink it so you don't have to download 70+mb to get 2 minutes of video. There will be some growing pains I'm sure, but this web server has been going mostly unused for 4 years now, time to flex the bandwidth a little. Don't hesitate to email if anyone needs help with FTP. I had set up a little page with a browse button where you could just enter filenames and upload but it was choking on the larger files during testing so it's FTP only for now. Or if they are small enough you can email them to me pwnzor@zero3nine.com and I'll put them up. BTW, oil conflicts will not result in an embargo | ||

The front page of the site is not done, so you won't be able to browse to anything except the root directory /badweb/ and you'll need an ftp client to see it. If you point your web browser at it you'll see my bike and my rv, but no filenames. The intention is to have a place for people to link to in their posts, but in the next few days I'll figure out some sort of index or thumbnails or whatever. There's no readme or akamai in my ftp so you must be in the wrong place, try again. Nick's videos work great, I'm hoping more people want them framed like that because IMHO it's the best way to go. But I'm ok with leaving them in raw format as well. Linking to videos from a post usually means an external video player has to load, embedding it in a frame eliminates that. | ||

I got it... When you go directly to ftp://ftp.zero3nine.com, you get the readme. When you go to ftp://ftp.zero3nine.com/badweb you get the picture of your bike and rv. | ||

just type ftp into your google search. Wikipedia has a pretty straightforward explanation. Simplest way is to load an FTP client and enter the login info. With client software you usually have to go into advanced settings and set the default directory as well as the hostname, so enter "/badweb/" and you should be good to go. Or you can email files to badweb@zero3nine.com and the size of the files you can send depends on your ISP. The badweb email associated with the FTP site can recieve up to 25mb at a time but most email providers only let you send 10mb. | ||

Search for one that will let you end up in WMV format, that will generally bring the size down a lot. | ||

Matt, Was going to help you host by using my server, but I didn't see any problem with speed while downloading. In fact, the speed bursted up to 2.5 MB/s and then leveled off at 1 MB/s while downloading that wheelie.mpg. FYI I'm using Comcast 8Mb/s cable. I was pretty impressed actually with that speed. Sam |
