If the buff amongst us in BadWeb haven't optimized this already, I'd be real surprised.

I'm looking for a a transport device large enough to accommodate size 14 clodhoppers and associated gym gear on the 'Bolt. Right now I have a cheap gym bag which I sling across my body but don't like because I can't cinch it tight easily once mounted and it can shift around. A standard gym bag with a wide single hand cinchable strap would be ideal.

I've looked at Timbuk2 messenger bags which seem nice but can't tell from the web site whether they have any internal dividers or at least commodius pockets. They are also pretty expensive.

I don't like backpacks.

I have the old Buell tankbag which is nice, but the shoes don't fit, and it is too stiff to put in a locker easily.

I'm also open to a tailbag as long as it is very quick to disconnect and will fit in the locker.

Anybody out there have any ideas?

Thanks ---

If you have a bag that WILL fit your shoes and such that you can AFFIX a latch, you could do something like a friend on ATC did, he built a diamond plate shelf that he could put in place of the pillion on his firebolt that he could strap his lunch box to. Maybe you could affix such a latch onto a bag that works and leave the bag latched to your bike or something like that.

messenger bag works, but they generally do not have inner dividers.

Right now I am using a Dickies messenger type bag. It has the same fold over flap for closing but is smaller than a real messenger bag.

http://www.yakpak.com/catalog/partdetail.aspx?partno=616

It is my current gym bag, it holds my size 12.5 shoes, shorts, tee shirt, swim goggles, lifting straps, socks...a towel won't fit though.

You can snug it to your body once it is on so it does not flap around. It has a hammer strap that I hang my helmet on. Works really well

the act strapping gear to your motorcycle is applying car thinking to motorcycling.
we strap stuff onto our cars because with cars we haven't the personal integrity (wind profile, cg/cm, etc.) which we are assigned with a motorcycle.
you'll find that rucksacks impact wind-profile FAAAAAAAARR less than do items starpped to the scoot, and they keep the load with the riders, which means it's kept over the inegrated rider/machine's CG/CM.
also, a rucksack compresses with a declining load, hard saddlebags, etc. do not
you want to strap large items to your vehicle, get a car.
as a motorcyclist, you'll find that your ride is negatively effected much less by wearing the load on your back.
for larger items, a modern issue mil-spec duffelbag or seabag is the ticket: it has no frame, it's soft, and it has shoulder straps.

I'd just pay the $5.00 a month and get a locker, the Fashion Gods will be pleased as well.

I have a messenger bag from ebags (not sure which model); it is barely adequate to contain my running shoes and clothes, towel, and toiletries. It does have an inner divider, plus more storage in the flap. I use it on days that I run at noon.

I use an Axio hardshell backpack for my daily office gear (usually laptop and lunch). It wouldn't be big enough to get shoes and gym clothes in, even without the laptop.

The universal tankbag I was using is starting to look shabby. It would hold my running gear, barely, but I get tired of taking it on and off, and I hate, hate the looks of it. Plus it interferes with steering at full lock.

Good luck,
Bill

I have a Crumpler messenger bag...lots of space in it and padded pockets for laptop and other things. I rarely use it for a gym bag, but it would easily hold everything I need.
It slings over one shoulder and has an extra strap that goes under your other arm and clips to the bag again holding it in place securely - no worries about it moving

I have a Timbuk 2 Messenger bag and it holds shoes, change of clothes, and my lunch for work. There aren't any dividers in the bag, but there are many smaller pockets to hold different items (wallet, sunglasses, etc.)

The reason a messenger bag can work is the strap that keeps the load from shifting around. It took me a bit to figure out how to get the thing to work right, but there is a video on their website that illustrates that.

The bag should hold everything you need for the gym. I agree they are expensive, though. I use mine everyday for commuting.

You can get the bag on and off while wearing a helmet if you must and I can also put it on when I am wearing my full leathers. I can't get my backpack on when I wearing leathers very easily.

Timbuk 2 works really nice for my commuting and I usually use it for camping too. will hold change of clothes/shoes, couple of beers, and fishing tackle. Backpacks are too hard to get on or off with a leather jacket on, the Timbuk 2 as said before will go right over helmet and can be cinced down really easy. cost is expensive but I've had mine for 5 yrs. and is still in good shape-12 bucks a yr. ain't too bad...

The old expandable Buell tail bag works great on my Cyclone. Not sure it is adaptable to the XB's though.

I have a large aerostitch messenger bag that would do the job easily. The waist strap keeps it from shifting while riding.

If you dividers in the bag, a small nylon or mesh gym bag can be carried in the messenger bag.

These bags are very well made. I have used the one I have for over a year for school books, and other utility use,
and after a quick clean up with mild soapy water it looks as good as new. They look expensive at first, but they last just like
the aerostitch suits do, maybe even better!
http://www.aerostich.com/home.php?cat=279

I also have a timbuk2 bag. It has not fared as well. The velcro has not stood up as well to prolonged usage. Other than
that it's been fine, and with new velcro it will easily last several more years.

Jansport has great bags also, they have a lifetime warranty on all their bags...I have a single strap sling bag, and they also have messenger bags...this one, particularly, seems to be pretty roomy...they have a really cushy shoulder strap and another strap for around the waist...comes off very easily without removing all your gear with it..

Looking through the responses, I think I just need to drop the cash on a good messenger bag. Now I just need to decide which one. I may have to buy the crumpler just so I can have a bag called the Fux Deluxe.

Thanks for the help.

And jlb, I don't believe you.

..yeah, Crumpler must have a few people whose only job is to come up with wacky names...mine is called the "Very Busy Man"...but if Fux Deluxe had been out then, I definitely would have gone for it...

What's wrong with the Buell Sling bag y'all got? I just bought some new Bates Tactical boots and hauled 'em home in the sling bag. Along with some other shiznit I always seem to carry for no apparent reason.

Tcskeptic,

Look at http://www.revpak.com/motorcycle/main.html luggage. They'll have something to haul those "size 14 Clodhoppers" in.

Hey Pwnzor,

What is inside that Icon bag?

A. Spare set of tentacles
B. Spare ammo for your M3A2 Annihilator
C. A tactical umbrella
D. Plans for the rebel base

????

I have been through this. Messenger bags can suck at speed... Even when you cinch them down they still move.

The best bag I have EVER used is the new Joe Rocket blaster
http://www.newenoughhp.com/joe_rocket_blaster_back_pack_page.htm

It is very well made. It has several padded straps that hold it in place at any speed (well lets say going to jail speed).
The hard helmet compartment is just the icing on the cake.
I use mine to store a full one piece aerostich when I head into stores. It fits, but leaves little room. If you just have a moto jacket, you could fit that, and the helmet at the same time.
Another feature I like is on longer rides the bag can sit lower on your back, resting on the seat. This enables two things, it takes the weight off your shoulders, and it acts as a simple back rest.

I don't like back packs either but when my gym bag fell off the back of my M2 i decided I won't strap it on again. I went to Walmart and found a good sling back pack for $12. I missed out on the Buell slings.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a similar problem, and I need to figure a way to carry some bulky gear on my CityX.

The Joe Rocket bag looks good, but I think I'd need a little more room. Anyone have suggestions?

Very possible, Bomber, very possible.

The similarities are quite astonishing - your motorcycle has 2 wheels, the tires are black, and it's a Buell!
