Well to address the original question. Really it comes down to this, do you still enjoy the ride? I reached a point after 31k miles that I no longer had faith that my 1998 S1W would get me home. It was no longer fun to ride. So it went to someone else. Yep, these bikes may require alot of maint, some folks like to work on em, others had rather be riding. Up to you. I am convinced that if all Buell dealers had the focus and customer service that Modesto Buell did, well I would still have a Buell. |

Here is a leftover from my high-side in Turn 1 - Willow Springs. Pic taken yesterday because I wanted to show it here as evidence for the folks who still think you CAN'T crash a new Buell. The other side has smaller dents from another 2 crashes. Bike has been down HARD 3 times now and has been on the podium a half dozen or more times since then. They DO crash well (though this pic is the best reason you MUST buy those frame protectors!)

Budo seems to be trying to equate a 1998 S1W to the current crop of Buell motorcycles, namely the XB line. That would be horribly misleading. |

Yup, XBs crash REALLY well. It still amazes me that Dora's bike came out so well after such a violent crash. It took Dora and I about two hours to fix her bike. And she had less than $200 in the parts to fix it. I finally got the last part in today. A rear caliper bolt and sleeve. Budo, there are still dealers with that level of service. Hals has treated us very well, and then there is also the legendary Daves. Unfortunately, it seems the bad dealers outnumber the good ones. |

Hey Tramp, we don't really need Cecil (or Sacborg) in this thread. It isn't about Cecil. Anyway, he's thick skinned enough to take it, whatever 'it' is. All we'd achieve is another flame thread, which could be fun, but the Cecil - Buell one is worn out, lol. In any case, I'm off to France tomoz for best part of a fortnight, so I'd miss the fun and games. Rocket |

I am not convinced that the bad ones outweigh the good ones. I think the Bad REPORTS outweigh the good reports. |

to add to the list of good dealers . . . . when I bought my Y2K MaDeuce from Lake Shore HD/Buell (then in Waukegan, now in Libertyville, Illinois), I had some fairly disappointing experiences with the service and parts department, and reported same here (in what I hope was a non-loopy manner) anywho, I've been remiss in reporting my OK service department experiences in the last couple of years (tire changes and wheel bearing replacements), and my truly stellar interchanges with the parts department -- not only do I NOT get the legendary "when are ya gonna dump that POS and buy a real bike?" when I ask for parts (both Sporty and Buell-specific), but 9 times outa 10, they got the part! I still go to Daves for the majority of my parts needs, but when I need a onesie/twosie order, and I need it now, I call Lake Shore, and they almost always got what I need . . . . . thanks for reminding me to update |

To bad it would go against BWB policy to have a list of dealers that are "consumer approved". We should all post our good dealer experiences when we have one. Me? I am still waiting to have one..................... |

"Too bad it would go against BWB policy to have a list of dealers that are "consumer approved". " We've had the rate your dealer topic in the Knowledge Vault for a long time now. Not sure what stated BadWeB policy one might imagine that topic is violating. |

Actually I was talking about dealer service or lack threof and being happy with your bike. I realize that the XB's are a more reliable product than the tube frame bikes. My local dealer, or I should say previous dealer blows (Bumpas HD/Buell of Memphis) the next nearest dealer is 3.5 hours away, however they do have a good rep by the way. I think that you can have a very bad motorcycle and still be ok if you have a excellent dealer. However it is difficult to have a bad motorcycle and have a bad dealer and be ok. That is just my opinion. YMMV (Message edited by budo on August 22, 2006) |

I agree that gossip sucks, no matter where it may appear. Honor is good. Gossip is not honorable. Cool of you to support the honorable path. |

When I saw Cecil in the title , my first thought was for former Detroit & NY slugger, Cecil Fielder. That says more about how my mind works than anything else. |

the cool thing, blake, is that i'd like to see the thread posted on das borg for purposes of accountability, as opposed to some other proponents of the idea |
