There was a Concourse d'elegance type motorcycle show held in Half Moon Bay on May 6th of this year. A guy put small and large size photos of most of the bikes that were displayed. halfmoon bay is a great little town, and it has some amazing riding roads nearby. also very good surf, including a point break in miramar, on the northern tip of the bay. 11 brief, scenic, coastal miles to the south is san gregorio, where one can hop onto rt. 84 for a twisty excursion up through coastal fields, then redwoods, up to alice's, and down the other side onto the peninsula... yes, i miss living there | ||

I grew up in La Honda which is between San Gregorio and Alice's at the 84/35 interchange. I must say the area has not changed a whole lot since the mid 1970's...the houses may be nicer but it is basically the same. | ||

lovematt: you grew up in lahonda????? dang! that's WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY beyond cool. kesey's cabin, just down the road from apple jack's, doesn't look much different from when i was a little guy. can still hear ken kesey and hunter thompson whooping it up w/ the frisco angels if you listen hard enough the san gregorio general store is one of my favourite places on earth, for good vibes. a general store where you can buy carhartts, a new shovel, or sit at the bar and drink wine or coffee. i used to leave my palo alto digs to ride over past alice's, wearing hot-weather duds. by the time i descended into the coastal for on the west side of the redwood forested twisties, i was often freezing my ass off, and needed to recharge at the general store with hot coffee. la honda's far too cool. neil young still lives up above la honda, as far as i know, in loma something-or-other, whatever that tiny area's called before alices'/skyline. i met him one monday am at the crossroad across from alice's at the woodside general store/gas station, while i was fueling my fxr and he was filling a gas can for his lawnmower. dumpy old station wagon, frumpled old redneck, helluva nice guy. lahonda oughta be considered america's sportriding capitol... | ||

Tramp, I agree. I lived there from 1976 - 1984 (when I was 6 - 14 years old). I have seen Neil Young in the area and he was definitely the original "Grunge King" then. The San Gregorio store brings back many good memories as a kid. I make it a point every few months to ride up there for the day just to bomb around the old haunts...and it takes me 4 hours just to get up there (taking Highway 1 which happens to be my favorite road to ride). My dad lives near Mendocino waaaaay up in northern cali....that is another bikers haven too. But not to detract from this thread...I love old bikes. My dad has a 1958 Matchless I am considering restoring but I don't know much about British bikes nor who could help with it in the Central Coast area. | ||

SWWWWEEEEEET! We saw some of those same bikes at the "Art Of The Motorcycle" show in Orlando, earlier this summer. Pictures do not do them justice, as seeing them in person and getting to take some time and actually look at and into the mechanics of the good ol' days technology. | ||
