Hi Folks, I need to perform my first oil change on my bolt ,would someone be so kind as to list the steps I should take , warm up , drain hose ,fill amount ect. thanks alot , Gary | ||

warm her up with a nice ride (not a static idle, as the 'hot pockets' thus produced, upon draining and refill with cold oil, contribute to soft-metal fatigue), depress your clamp and let the stuff flow nicely outta the hose, give it a nice, long drain period (1/2 hour's nice if you have things to do), and then stand the scoot up and reset it on it's stand to dump any residual. do your best not to spill any poil, as it takes very little used oil to contaminate groundwater, and it is carcinogenic as all hell. i use empty laundry detergent bottles as storage/return vessels for my used lubes. spin off your filter (I replace with a wix 51515, as it provides superior filtration, same bypass value, and it's considerably longer than the stock filter, and higher capacity, so it acts as a nice cooler) wipe the face where the filter seats down nicely, allow it to run out, dribble some oil into your new filter (fill it halfway or so), dribble some on the attached rubber gasket, check/clean threads on engine where filter connects, and spin new filter on, lightly and smoothly, then hand-tighten. replace drain plug (after cleaning and drying it, I use starting fluid or brake parts cleaner), add tow and a half quarts, start engine, run for about 20 seconds, shut down, wait a another minute, then check oil level with dipshi...er...stick. add if necessary. if you've used the wix oil filter, or a wal-mart equivelant, you may need to add more earl. start scoot, allow to warm up for a good 60 seconds (even longer of ambient temp is below 50o f or so), and enjoy. wipe down filter and drain plug surfaces, so as to facilitate leak-checking. |
