Now that my bike is up and running again, I wanted to go for a really good ride. I headed up to Moto Market, grabbed a coffee, and chatted with the people there. I asked one of the ladies there where I could find a good road. When she asked how much time I had, I let her know that I had all day. She then told me about Mohawk Trail. Mohawk Trail is Route 2 between I91 and the New York border. It has a few twisties and a hairpin. I headed out there around 12:00. I was fully suited up already, so I was ready for a fun ride. Once I got past I91, I got stuck behind some traffic. I got an idea of what was on this road, but when I got to the hairpin, I wasn't quite ready for it. It was a left hander, slightly off camber, and down hill. I wasn't happy with the way that I hit it, so I turned around and went for more. I noticed that heading east, this was just like turn 3 at Loudon. I down shifted into first gear and kept the rpms to about 4000 and hit it beautifly. I turned around again, and got a proper hit on it heading back west. Shortly after, I stopped in North Adams at a Duncan Donuts for a coffee and a rest. Then after gassing up, I started heading back. Just past the hairpin there is a view point where you could see for 65 miles. I didn't stop, but I took note of it for a day where sight seeing would be more important then the ride itself. I didn't have any traffic so I really opened it up. About a mile past the hairpin, there was a sweeping left hander. I was going probably about 70 when I turned in. The radius decreased slightly, and I thought that I might be in trouble. I leaned a little bit more, an although scary, I took the turn just fine. There were a few right handers that I thought I was going to get my knee down, but that didn't happen. Once past 91 I started getting pretty tired. I had about 60 miles to go before I got off route 2 and onto 190. This 60 miles started to feel like an eternaty. My shoulders, back and neck were hurting like hell. My legs were pretty sore from gripping my gas tank, and my hands... they pretty much always hurt. Once turning onto 190, I headed a little ways south and got off onto route 12 to get another coffee. I hung out there for about a half hour, and was checking out a couple of pretty hot chicks at the DD. One of them reminded me of someone that I knew a while ago, but I don't know if it was her (plus I didn't even remember her name). A kid was so stoked to see me and my bike, and he asked me a million questions. I thought that was cool. Finally, I was on the final stretch of my trip. All I could think about at this point was how comfortable my bed would be. I took 290 to route 146 to route 16 to 122. Finally after about 7 hours on the road and 300 miles, I was home. I am so freakin beat, but I had a blast. |

Next time, stay on Rt.2 and continue past Williamstown into New York State over Taconic pass. It gets even better. |

You think turn 3 at NHIS is sketchy? Did ya get a good look at the trees, sign post, gard rails, while you were pushing along rt.2 ??? At least the wall in three is lined with tires to help soften the hit. You think Louden has no run off? Ha Ha Ha. |

Eboos- you took me back to the days of riding my Interceptor when I was stationed at Fort Devens around the Leominster/Fitchburg area in the 80's. I really miss that part of the country. We used to head north thru Nashua and find any road that looked smooth and ride for hours. Beautiful place to be that New England..... (Message edited by odie on August 18, 2006) |

eboos: what crusty said. Taconic Trail (rt 2) between MA and NY is a very nice ride. I like going through pioneer valley also. I normally do a big loop. NY Rt 7 -> VT RT9. Then Go across VT and stop in Brattleboro to get falafel. Then down into MA and back over through Pioneer valley, then Taconic Trail on the way back. If you are coming this way again drop me a line and I will see if I can ride out and say howdy. -Patrick |
