Last year I rode Lake's S3T at the gap, scuffed the tyres all the way over, & my knee didn't get close to the ground. I figure the tyres are the bits that are supposed to stay on the floor & the rider on the bike, perhaps I'm missing something, or just old fashioned. |

Slaughter FYI: Zuki and rider are fine. I cant speak for why or how he rides or wrecks, I just gave the story as I heard it. For me, as far as I know, I was riding in my ability and the speed limit in the particular turn. I just made a bad choice on deciding I would be a bad a** and look like I was dragging my jeans down the road. I just did not know They would gab the the road that hard. I was riding like I had a nice set of pucks on. Bad Idea. The worst damage to anything human or bike is a broken sifter on my XB and you are welcome to have it. And for me the moral of the story don't leave home without your knee pucks. I believe this would not have happened if I were not trying to scrape my jeans. |

That's funny ... to me it sounds like Slaughter is spot on. But then I'm just a slow old guy who'd like to keep riding for many years to come. Henrik |

Damnut - you ARE right - I know it's a soapbox. It's just that it has gotten so freaking common to see people getting killed and injured and ALWAYS for the same things. Not born again (that is a good analogy actually - except I'm an atheist - ask Blake - seriously) - the sportbike boards are always filled with the same stories of people loosing it in turns, people fixating and following them off the road or somebody choking and crossing a double yellow - or just having their mind wander. We end up with another "memorial" thread, another gnashing of teeth, wondering if we can "learn from his/her mistake" - and we never NEVER learn. Henrik - I am a slow old guy. Nuttin wrong bout that! (though I didn't get back into expert road racing til I was 50) Damnut - you're right - in a sense I think your analogy about being "born again" is a good one since having re-discovered track days. I'm preaching "take it to the track" No speeding tickets, ambulances only seconds away, you CAN learn the limits of the bike and you can do it in a structured environment - so I'm guilty as charged (no hard feelings, you did make a good point as I was being preachy) (really great day racing today at Willow Springs - another story) |

slaughter.... thanks for your words. I hope that I did not come off too harsh and I didn't mean to come off like I was slamming you. I am just a firm believer of the "to each's own" theory. I glad to see there's no hard feeling as well. Barker how's the bike???? |

Pix of bike are coming. Got get em from zuki dude, and there is a good chance i'll be on the front page of killboy. Not that bad as far a damage. The worst Thing is it landed on the sifter. (Was in second during crash, reverse/GP shift pattern, pushed the bike into first) It seems to be stuck in first gear. I cant get it to shift. Any advice? |

Bomber I know just what you mean, I get the same sort of comments, I think it's called the "Old Git" riding style. |

Damnut - no harm, no foul! Discussion is what these boards are all about and I didn't really feel slammed. We all have to learn not to take stuff personally on the 'net. (me too!) Talking in person, it's easy to get somebody's meaning, by reading words, you can't get somebody's tone-of-voice like you can in person. 'sall good! - and I'm dang glad that everybody on the ride got nothing more than a story to tell - and a learning experience . All's well that ends well! |

I was riding in my ability and the speed limit in the particular turn Okay...something doesn't sound right here. I've done a few trips to Deals Gap. I'm not sure you can drag a knee at the speed limit. And if you can, I'm not sure you need to. Now for the obligatory damage photos from my last trip to The Dragon.
BTW....yes, I was speeding. No, I wasn't over my ability. I just made a mistake and had a momentary lapse of concentration. |

In life, we can learn from the sage counsel of the wise and experienced, or we can learn the hard way. One way is likely to hurt much more than the other. |

I might add that a LARGE part of "within your limits" should take into account the changes in conditions which are GUARANTEED to occur (traffic, holes, rocks, sand, animals, water...) Not on every ride but pretty dang often. If not taken into account, we fall. Some of us accept falling as an expected thing, some of us don't. I try not to fall on the street, I expect to fall 2-4 times a year on the track. |

"I just made a bad choice on deciding I would be a bad a** and look like I was dragging my jeans down the road." Yes, I should not have been leaning that far over. |
