sounds good to me!
i've got to be back by three though. we can probably leave the newburgh area by around 8:30 after rich gets off work. maybe meet up at the lexus(close to pd lot) and run up 17 to save some time?

easiest place to meet up with doon?

if you are coming up 17, the easiest place would be the Roscoe Diner. Right off exit 94 (I think, there are signs on 17 for it) in roscoe. About 70 miles from newburgh. From there can go up around the resorvior and up 28.

yes 28 goes from kingston to M'ville (the other end of 30 around the pepacton) Roscoe is 70 miles from my house. M'ville is about 50 miles or so. And I go down 28 all the time. If you have some time issues, etc.. perhaps we could plan for another weekend to do the longer ride. My wife has been buggin me to take her on the cruiser, so maybe I will cave in to that.

Mike, Statik, etc... You guys are all planning on hanging down by New Paltz right? If so I am probably going to pass on this one so I can go ride with my wife (ever since I got the buell I've been kinda ignoring riding with her). 6500 miles on the Lighting this year, only 3000 on the cruiser (and 1100 of those where 1 weekend). So I will probably hang up here. But if we can schedule it for another time I would be honored to show you guys around these parts.

I just got on the computer and i have and hour to get ready and make down to Poughkeepsie area not going to happen. Let me know when you guys are going to make it up this way or near Troy/Albany area to meet or meet a little later in the morning down your way. Then i could make it.

Oh boy here we go TRAMP really wants to meet me, PAW the a$shole. Not sure if i want to meet or ride with a guy that holds a grudge the way you do, I might find myself in a ditch. You did say a lot of your friends you ride with are convivted felons but no mention if you were? But again i'm not afraid to meet anyone i just like to ride. TRAMP, when i got back from my 10 day vacation the first thing i did on here was look at what i missed on the cop passing thread and i said was sorry for upsetting anyone and saw you were still pissed about everything that was said. How aboutwe suck it up, be men and GET OVER IT.And not be like women and hold a grudge.

Well Mike, Tracker, Hammer I suppose I've found the problem with my headshake/loose fork sensation.

Upon getting home, I jacked up my XB and proceeded to try to tighten the head bearings. I loosened all the fork tube pinch bolts(upper & lower L & R), then loosened the stem nut pinch bolt, turned the forks all the way to the right untill it was against the fork stop.

I then put a 3/8 hex socket on the stem nut and tried to tighten it. It would not budge! I tried harder and it still would not move. I thought it might be corroded.

SO, I marked its orientation to the top tree with a magic marker and loosened it. I then spun it completely off, coated the threads and thrust surface with anti-seize compound and re-installed it.

It got to the spot where it had been and stopped turning instantly! I then swapped my ratchet for a long handled torque wrench and gave it a pull.

SNAP!!! I broke the damn top tree in half!

A clean break right thru the middle. Apparently the top bearing was seized to the stem and would not move downward. Upon removal of the entire stem and bearings from the bike it became clear that the upper and lower bearings are complete toast!!!

They feel like gravel! Now I need bearings and a top tree. I'm a bit upset about this, but I guess it's just par for the course for my bike!

Anybody got a line on a used top firebolt tree?

P.S. I gues the thruway isn't all that much faster is it? I saw you guy in plattekill and saw mike again in Newburgh.}

saint,
if it doesn't cost you too much it may end up being a positive. the handling quirks may finally be corrected. i wonder how long the the bearings have been bad?

you must have caused it!!!

saw you on the overpass, and again on 300. figure the 10 minutes it took us to get to 87 (along with sitting at both toll stops)made up for any further time savings. quite a surprise.

Ok, before I go and order new stem bearings. Are ther any updates or revisions on the bearings that I should know about?

Any special "orange" bearings that I need?

Also, any recomendations on where to get the best deal on them?

I'm thinking appleton Dave, since he's always taken care of me in the past.

he's probably the best bet to "know" about any updates as well.

don't reveal your vin# or they'll know it's the secret test mule model...
