If memory serves, the schools are designed primarily to get you a certificate that leads to a racing license, after you complete the novice race, scheduled the next day. There is a lot more classroom time than track time. This is great if you want a racing license. However, if you just want track time, and have no plans to race, I would recommend the street rider track day. You might want to check with Penquin, but I think this is the situation. |

I did the street rider track day last year and if I remember correctly, the difference in time between the racing school and a SR track day school was a 1/2hr. the extra time is for learning about what all the flags mean. In the SRT day, I think only three are used. I don't want to race either but there are no STRdays left this year. Sept 22nd. is a race school day but I believe anyone can attend and it's an extra 1/2 hr for the flags. There is not a rookie race the next day for this particular event. Normally they do have the rookie race the next day, as part of getting your license. I think if you do have your race license, you can get track time for a cheaper price. That may pay off if you go a few times a year. |

Rich - thanks for posting this. I've been meaning to... From what I've read on their site, sounds like what you're saying is correct so I'll definitely be up for it. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow to see if I can confirm it. It would be cool to have more Buells up there this time |

The penguin race school is jest that, a race school to get new racers their CCS racing licences. That said, you can and in my opinion should take the school even if you have no intenshions of ever getting your license. Street riders are welcome. I would highly recomended the race school as an introduction to doing future track days. The actual school is run in the morning, alternating between track time and class room safty training, there will be a test, flags and such other important info. The afternoon is run as open practic. Usaly the riders are split into 3 or 4 groups with 15 min sessions each, the students/beginers as one group and the LRRS racers making up the others. I should be there that weekend. Not sure if we are racing the X1 on Sat or Sun or both days yet? |

Jest a thought if you do get your race licence, the LRRS season is 8 events. Thats eight track days. I know some guys that go up every race weekend run 2 races each day and never look or care where they finished or their lap times, their there to make laps and have fun thats it. It's $60 for each race. So for a fun Sunday afternoon $120 gets you two morning warm up/practic sessions and two 8 lap sprint races. Thats our normal routien with the X1. |

That sounds pretty cool. The Hudson Valley crew all said they were interested. Maybe Statik and Doon will go. Danny h jesternut, Is this school any less crowded than a street rider track day? |

Hard to say some weeks there seems to be more than others. I would venture a guess and say on average there is about 30 students each school day. In most cases there are 5 or 6 students per track instructur. good luck, have fun. |

me, in april 2005 on a rental duc at penguin school talking with an instructor who called me "fearless" (notice how tippy toed i am - and even with my street boots with heels on....the rental boots were all WAY too big - they also removed the seat off the bike and i am sitting on the frame and a pad)
and here i am, morning of my first races! notice the down winter vest and soaking wet concrete outside of the pit area (40 degrees and raining)
have a blast! and if you rent the same suit and helmet, we'll have the same pics D |
