finally, after almost 9 weeks of not riding a motorcycle (i was probably ready sooner, but i'd really tucked the bikes out of the way, so it was a PITA to pull it out) - i hopped on my buell and rode up to elkhart lake, WI to check out a day of Camp Jeep. scored free tix from an old chicago jeepin' friend Marc who stopped by to have drinks with me friday, and got to see another old friend Brian who was guiding trails up at the event. stayed for blues brothers concert and fireworks - rode home for a total of 150 miles. today was racebike fixing day. rode over to steve and toni's house, fixed my racebike for a couple hours (shift lever, shift linkage, clutch lever, brake caliper bolt, clip on handlebar). still need to work on drilling some new holes into the magnesium fairing support to mount new bolts, riveting the tail section back together, and installing a new handlebar grip. all in all, the bike crashed remarkably well AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP! after the wrenching, i went out for a ride with steve's wife toni on her cityX for an hour or so - was very fun! capped off the night with a greasy cheeseburger and chocolate peanut butter custard (like ice cream) with steve, toni, and their son thomas! cool. Sounds like you had a good day and obviously feeling much better!! Glad to hear it. If your weather was anything like NC today, it was a great day for riding. Take care and keep us posted on your progress. Kristi |

Cool Dora! Glad to hear you're back on 2 wheels and (more or less) back to being yourself! I have been surprised over and over again at how well the XBs fare in a crash, assuming there are pucks in place. When is your next track day or race going to be? |

Ulywife, no we didn't have a good day, we had a GREAT day. Coolice, saying the XBs crash good is an understatement of the year. We figgered it cost a whopping $150 or so to get the XB9R back to track ready status. The hardest thing to do was drilling out the bolts on the shifter, since the heads were ground completely off. It took us a total of two hours to accomplish this as well. Dora is not the type of woman to sit there and look pretty as well. She got right in there and worked on one thing, while I worked on another. The COOLEST thing of the day was when Toni said, "does it run?". Turned the key, hit the starter, and Vroom! Came to life almost immediately. That's impressive after such a serious crash. Here's some pics of today's adventure.
Gotta love the before and after shot of the left clip-on.
Dirt embeded EVERYWHERE.
The poor mangled shifter.
After we fixed the bike, Toni and Dora went for a ride... See she looks good as new!
Out in front of Cops custard in Brookfield, where Dora treated us to some good burgers and custard! Thanks for the fun day Dora! |

Awesome, goos to hear everything is coming together for you. Take it easy to make sure everything is healed up before you put too much stress on it. Sorry if this was mentioned before as I just read Dora's post and then looked at the pics, I know I am so easily amused. Good luck, and ride SAFE. |

Don't forget to take the long way home Dora! Steve and Toni are great hosts and great assets to the Buell community in general. Thomas is also a cool little dude! |

Here is Thomas showing off his muscles
Here he is showing off the skills No_Rice tutored him on.
Here he is showing off his wheelie skills after watching Bubba Blackwell do his show. (slight assist from my son Kyle)
Did I mention I had a great time at homecoming in no small part due to Steve and Toni's hospitality Kyle and I agree, We're not worthy, but we will be back Dora you'll have to hang with us more next time though (Message edited by diablobrian on August 14, 2006) |

Spectrum - you've got until next spring to improve your skills!! Dora's coming back to NC in the spring for a visit. C3 will try and plan a ride out of the Raleigh area while she's here. |

Spectrum - you've got until next spring to improve your skills!! Na, If I tried to hang with Dora I'd just end up hurting myself. I'm 3 months back on a bike after a 12 year layoff. Just taken it slow and doing my own ride. I well definitely try to link up with you guys in the spring. Maybe if I'm nice to Dora she'll give me some pointers. |

Maybe if I'm nice to Dora she'll give me some pointers. Tell her you're a Duke fan! When you ride with this group, you will find that it's a "ride your own ride". No one will be left behind or pushed beyond your comfort zone. We want everyone to come home safely and ride again next time.

i'd never push anyone to ride past their limits. i used to make a living teaching people how to stay within and improve their driving abilities off-road. i'm a believer in the ride your own ride philosophy. also, if we ride together, you'll see that i'm just an ordinary rider on the street. WAY too much stuff can happen on the street that i dont have to think about on the track (debris, construction, cars, animals, etc.!) plus i know i'm not in full leathers and race gear, and there's not an ambulance just waiting for me.... D p.s. GO DUKE |

I do hope I get the chance to ride with you and the other C-3ers in the spring, but somehow I don't think "ordinary" is the adjective any of us would use to describe you. P.S. Go Red Raiders |
