Alton Brown rocks. The guy is Mr. Wizard in the kitchen. His show on Food Network, "Good Eats", actually got me to start learning how to cook and wanting flames painted on my Kitchenaid stand mixer. On top of that, he is a motorcycle guy. He's been doing a new show called "Feasting on Asphalt", where he and his crew traverse the country on motorcycles, staying off the Interstates as much as possible, and NEVER eating in chain restaurants. Instead he finds the local eateries and their regional fare. Another great show! Here's a link to a portion of the show that got left on the editing room floor where he comments on Deal's Gap, the Dragon, and The Tree of Shame. Pretty neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpdKBD9CXXY FYI, there are two episodes left. The next one is Saturday night. (Message edited by stevasaurus on August 11, 2006) |

I love Good Eats. I don't often miss it. I havn't seen his new show yet. I have been cooking a lot over the past few years, and I like to pull different recipes from Foodnetwork.com. |

i'm with you 200%, steveasaurus. altoo is one funny and brilliant educator. my better half is addicted to his show, and can't walk away from it too easily, either. i was a little put-off by his flamed kitchenaid, when he suggested sh*tcanning the sunbeam mixmaster. I've always done fine with the cheap ole' mixmaster |

Alton is great. I love his scientific approach to the kitchen. I purchased his salt cellar from his website for my wife. www.altonbrown.com |

Yeah, I've got a Salt Cellar too. And I actually got a tangerine colored Kitchenaid on purpose in anticipation of blue and candy apple red flames. I just can't get myself to walk into some custom shop and ask them to paint my mixer, and the subsequent look that I would get. Back to the bikes: I've read threads here about Deals Gap. This is the first time I have seen anything about it, let alone from Alton Brown. That looks like a blast, but not necessarily for the faint of heart. Meanwhile, I guess he dumped his BMW and broke his colarbone during the trip while outside of Las Vegas. Bummer. From what he said,"I got down into a little ditch and tried to gun myself out of it and things went down hill . . . " Source is at link. http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/01/tv/main1853445.shtml I wonder if he would have faired any better with a Ulysses? I watch him whenever I can too! I always learn something, and my wife uses a lot of his tips and techniques. All around his show is much better than the other Food Network offerings. Penny and I were at the Las Vegas Gourmet Show last May where we had a booth to promote her DVD, and Alton was scheduled to do some cooking demo's for Kershaw Knives. They had their booth about 50' from ours. He crashed the bike the DAY BEFORE he was scheduled, and he still showed up! He was in a sling and walking kinda slow, but he signed give-away items for a couple of hours - there was a HUGE line of people! You know that had to hurt like hell! He's got my respect, for sure! Maybe I'll paint some flames on Penny's grey mixer! Steve - if you take yours to a custom shop- get it on video! AL |

I used one of his suggestions when selecting my coffee grinder. No plastic to come into contact with and rob/transfer flavor. |

deals gap is a amazing rode. very intense. once you ride it, it gets into your blood and consumes you. that is all you will think about, talk about and dream about. until you can ride it again. here is a pic of the tree of shame.

Just did hwy 421 on Sunday, it is east of the Dragon. I've ridden both, and have to say that 421 is more difficult. What time does his show air? I have seen the commercials, but always tied up with something else. Anybody record them? |

I only watch the food channel for Rachel Ray. Alton Brown doesn't make me feel happy in my pants. |

I like Gida, although I think that her head is too large for her body. I always laugh when I see the end of an episode of 30 minute meals. Rachel always does the "yummy face" after tasting what she made. |

I saw the show last nigth. I knew Alton was the real deal when he was laying on the ground, pinned under his BMW, complaining that he had broken the mirror when he crashed. |
