A 680cc V-twin with footboards and an automatic transmission? Sounds like just the bike for a runty little shiftless bastard. Real American bikers want two or three times that displacement so they can haul some luggage and maybe an extra person along. Jack |

I like it. I wouldn't replace the XB with one (or anything else) but I see where they are going with this approach. The first scooter I would actually ride. |

I like it, except for the monstrosity of the exhaust, and you have to squint to not see the radiator. I wouldn't own one it a million years, but it does seem to resemble a Buell at first (very brief) glance... |

Well I liked it till I saw "680cc" and the automatic tranny. What this means for us is a bunch of cagers who can't grasp the concept of shifting gears getting on the road with the rest of us. I'm sure it's reliable but I can't see it being "sporty" with that tiny motor on such a large bike. I wonder how much that tranny weighs...? It seems very visually appealing but drop real motor in it for Christs' sake.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well I liked it till I saw "680cc" and the automatic tranny. What this means for us is a bunch of cagers who can't grasp the concept of shifting gears getting on the road with the rest of us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LOL...I was just commenting on the wave of scooter-riders in my area the other day. It seems as if all the morons that bought Escalades and put 24" rims on them suddenly realized they couldn't afford such a ridiculous vehicle and transferred to scooters, instead. Every time I see a scooter ridden by someone that doesn't have some kind of obvious infirmity that would preclude them riding a motorcycle, I just feel like walking up to them and asking if they couldn't figure out how to operate a 'real' two-wheeled vehicle. ...thankfully, before my mouth gets carried away my brain reminds me that I'm a skinny little white guy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What a bunch of snobs! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yeah, I know...I didn't say it was SMART of me to react that way. This country really would be a lot better off on the traffic congestion/fuel economy front if we took a page from European/SE Asian countries and more people rode little mopeds and scooters. And let's face it, a lot of people simply aren't coordinated enough to safely handle a motorcycle - there's a lot going on there. Removed of the necessity of shifting/clutch action, the amount of people who can safely negotiate two-wheeled transportation goes up significantly. I'll bet you the majority of the population lives less than 10 miles from their place of employment and furthermore a significant chunk is probably within easy biking distance (and the 'easy' biking distance would be extended if we weren't so fat and lazy to begin with!), yet we still get in the car to go around the corner for a bag of groceries. ...I'm looking forward to my next bike having enough bolt-on luggage space that I can handle small grocery trips on it. =D (Message edited by darthane on August 08, 2006) |
You know, if that twerp Gore is correct and the planet is warming, more folks can ride scooters much of the year. When I lived in New England, hey, no chance. Now that I live in San Diego, I could nearly give up having a car. Who said there is no upside to climate change??????????? |
Yeah...my best friend moved to Palo Alto to attend Stanford a couple years ago, and left his bike here. O_O ...I still haven't figured that one out, and I've been after him to get a new bike. He's constantly telling me how the weather is always beautiful, he could ride everywhere, the bastard. |
Could be a very intersesting beginners bike. I really wonder if it will be geared enough to get out of its own way though. Looks like a low seat hieght, sporty yet relaxed, could be something for my daughter to have. . . . .. . . . . . . NAAAA, a Blast would be much better |
How many of you guys have actually ridden the new generation of "super scooters" I have and they rock. Not really my type of rides but a decent rider on one could embarrass a few here. |
Overall, I like it. It's got clean lines and looks rather comfortable to ride. I've often wondered why none of the motorcycle companies produced something like it. With the increased number of highway scooters being used to commute, it would seem like a no-brainer. I would think that with the larger wheels, and a straddle riding position that they would be safer to ride at higher speeds as well. I think that on offering like this from Honda would do well. That being said - there would not be one on my shopping list. |
"What a bunch of snobs!" Let me tell you something. I grew up poor as dirt. I won't bore you with the litany of crappy bikes I've had to ride throughout my life. But I've been 2 wheelin it the whole time. I've got a fair idea what a motorcycle is, and what a scooter is. That thing is a very large scooter. Nothing wrong with it, I'd roll it if circumstances required it. My thing is that for the size it's going to be underpowered and we're going to have a sh1tload of cagers who don't have the wherewithal to operate a manual transmission, suddenly on the freeway with half the tires underneath them that they're used to. These people can barely control cars that drive themselves. This product is a menace to society. There I said it. Snobs, indeed. Pshaw! Posh and flimshaw, that's the glom of it.
"I really wonder if it will be geared enough to get out of its own way though." VESPA 125 and 250cc bikes get out of peoples way just fine actually, I doubt a 680cc V-twin will have any problems keeping ahead of the minivan brigade. |
My Suzuki DR650 single popper will do 100. That's fast enough. But it doesn't get any better gas mileage than the Buell. |
