Hi all. My Girlfriend is close to buying a Blast. What should I expect in dealer fees? Thanks! |

Ours are 410 on new XBs. I don't remember off of the top of my head, but they are a bit less on the Blasts. |

Update: I decided to buy an 07 Blast at California HD in Harbor City. They knocked the price to $4395 (from $4695) But they want $538 for "freight" and $680 for "handling!" Is that insane or what? They are giving me back $125 in a "gift card." I know that this is the cheapest bike in the store, and I am all for capitalism and making a profit, but the freight on a Duece is $290 (a figure given to me by the salesman.) I see how they are getting a little extra profit out of the Blast. |

That sounds very close to criminal. What do they base the freight on weight or size? Oh wait the Blast is also the smallest and lightest bike there. At most it's crate would be the same size. I've seen Handling/set-up padded before, but never freight at a reputable dealer. |

Harley-Davidson has a set charge for freight, some dealers use it, some don't. |

I bought my 06 Firebolt from California HD last August and they didnt deal at all with me. Hell they didnt even take my Honda CBR as a trade-in even with the big white sign by the fron door saying , "we want your trade-in". Anyway I got a $250 gif card out of it, and two free Buell T-shirts (that were size med so they kinda fit me tight). I noticed that place doesnt even give a 10% off at the parts counter like glendale HD does for HOG and BRAG members. Even Bartels HD does it if your in the military. See if Bill Swift is still there and try to talk with him, maybe he can deal somewhat, but good luck. They need all that profit for those "free" BBQ's they throw every Saturday. |

I'm sorry but a $1200 surcharge borders on the rediculous. Auto dealers don't charge that much for FULL SIZE CARS AND TRUCKS! I'd tell them they are out of their minds. |

the dealer is charged 210.00 for shipping of a Blast. So they are marking up the shipping by 328.00 680.00 for handling is waaaaaay too much too. We charge 180.00 for setup on a Buell. So they are marking that up 500.00 828.00 in extra mark up. That's a lot more than the mark up in the bike itself! |

Just buy a used one, they are relatively plentiful and cheap, and guess they haven't really improved anything on it since 2002. I see them all the time from $2500 to $3000 sometime with like 350 miles on it. |

go for the 06 and walk in with 4000 and tell them to take it or leave it.... Then again, I hear things go different in california you said that right. I walked in with $12500 in cash in my pocket and rode out on a bike. I tried to start at the sticker price of $10589 but the salesman and the OWNER didn't care. They basically challenged me to find one anywhere else. I had to have it, I bought it.

Thanks for all your input. I decided to buy new this time because it's for my girlfriend, an I wanted a minimum of potential problems. They don't have any 06 Blasts, and only a white one on the floor, Black in the warehouse, no sense of urgency about having it delivered. I left a deposit, so I am committed to buy from this dealer, but I'll never buy another bike from them. They misled me about when I could pick up the bike (it's a surprise gift,) and don't seem to think that the fees are excessive, even though I am getting NO added value from them. Oh well...As long as she's happy riding it. Thanks again. |

Skip Fordyce offered me a new 12R for 10,000. As long as I just bought it and did not ask any questions that is. |

It's not too late to get your deposit back. LET ME TELL YOU ONE THING ABOUT CAL HARLEY. When I was searching for a 2004 XBR in August of 2003 Cal Harley's sales manager told me on the phone that if I came in and paid cash in full that he would BUMP someone who had already made a deposit OFF the WAITING LIST for ME. That is 100% bad business. To tell a stranger that over the phone espcially, I could have been Erik Buell for Christs' sake. Have you checked Glendale? I haven't been there but everyone raves about their service. Real Buellers up there. I think if you gotta wait anyway you're better off waiting with them. This is my opinion, based on my personal experience. Stay where you like, but I think you will kick yourself later if you stay with them. (Message edited by pwnzor on August 08, 2006) |

And another thing. If they give you grief about the deposit, go over their heads to Buell Customer Service and have the bike delivered to another dealer and pay the remainder of the money to them. There has to be an out. They are dicking around with you.

I agree with the shopping around, right now is definantly the best time to buy if you are willing to take an 06. Not sure how much your deposit was, but if daves says they're ripping you off 800+, they are ripping you off 800+. If your deposit is less then that, even without bothering with a call to BMC, it may still be cheaper to shop around. |

The net price of the bike to you is all that matters. Offer what you are willing to pay for the Blast. If they take it, fine. If not, fine. The cost of freight is irrelevant. It is the number on the check you need to come up with. |

Here’s what went down. I bought the Blast from Cal. HD. I know I could have gotten out of the deposit if I wanted, but I endure enough confrontation in my life, so I decided to press on. I got an additional $200 knocked of the price, I know I could have gotten a better deal elsewhere, and I will apply that lesson next time. This dealer is the closest to my house, and they had a black one, in addition to a bunch of other Buells on the floor, 10 times what Bartel’s has. I know they ream Buell buyers because they have no chrome do-dads and custom paint to artificially inflate the price with, like the big twins. The high fees are now water under the bridge, the good here is that everyone at BadWeb can add them to the list of dealers to be wary of. But if you’re in the area on a Saturday, go by and have a hotdog, I paid for it! Thank you all for your help, including a couple offers from other dealers. Had the timing been better, I’d have taken you up on them. For sure, I will be directing any potential Buell buyers to you guys! (you know who you are!) Most importantly, my Belinda is very happy with her new ride (and more than a bit surprised!) So I would ask all of you to extend a warm BadWeatherBikers Welcome to the love of my life, Belinda, SoCal’s newest Buell rider! (pics to follow, she doesn't use Badweb....yet) |

WOW, that's a lot for Freight and Setup. I didn't pay a dime on our CityX for F&S last January. *AND* got a hefty discount under retail. But Hals tends to like me for some reason |

Congrats on the Blast! She will love the bike. If you get to ride it, you will to. Sometime, when you are in the mood for a 400 mile ride, go up to San Francisco and meet Ezblast. It's worth the trip. |

Thanks everyone. She's really enjoying it. We had a great rdie to dinner last night, we'll see what the weekend holds. No power mods planned, but we will probably install the dual headlight assembly and flyscreen from a Lightning. |

Now that you own it, be very cautious of Cal Harley service. They charged nearly $1500 for 25K service and among the horror stories, they left the clip off the plug in the oil drain hose, which could have easily left a stream of oil in the road right in front of my rear wheel. |
